People are just upset because it's around Valentine's Day and they're all lonely and bitter. ;) But seriously, I've been gone for a little while, but when I was here, I never saw a well-intentioned, logical, reasonable person who asked legitimate questions (ie, not "If I buy my two male geckos a teddy bear, will they stop trying to kill each other?") and actually took the advice given to them ever get any rude or derogatory remarks from anyone here.

I agree with the first person that responded. Every forum is like this. Some worse than others. It's the nature of people to get like that unfortunately.

Tough and to the point is one thing and is something I have no issue with and most people don't. Derogatory, rude and demeaning comments are another. I have seen a trend where some people (not you) believe these two things are the same.

What you perceived as bullying was pure frustration.
It had nothing to do with users being "angry" to start with, but when you seen illegal acts of neglect, it can get under anyones skin.
The OP should have had animal control called on him, but thats a different subject.

A lot of users have voiced their opinion on the fact that there shouldnt be a Health and Medication section because it gets used as a vets office.

This is the thread youre referring to, anyone can read it and make their own decisions on wether or not this "poor kid" was treated wrongly.

From the pic in the thread, I believe the "poor gecko" was treated wrongly. A lot of questions asked here could easy be answered by ready the most basic caresheet on leopard gecko health.

I did end up contacting that rescue and seriously considered posting the emails from the director of the rescue he got that gecko from, but I felt that would be inappropriate. The background of the situation that he filled me in on, though, is even more disturbing.

The pics aren't what set people off (well, not really). It was the guy's refusal to do anything to help the gecko, dismissing of the advice being given, and excuses - and the gecko suffered for years and eventually died because of it. Anyone who doesn't understand how and why people get mad in those situations is just...well, I don't even have a word for it. How anyone can expect others to not respond with anger to someone who intentionally tortures an animal is beyond me.

I can see how this could have set people off. Animals in cages rely on the ownwers to take care of them and this one was poorly cared for.

I still think about that thread a lot. That really bothered me quite a bit. You always feel helpless when you see and here of stuff like that. All in all I can agree we should all try to be respectful of others on the forum, and I will agree I have seen things that maybe harsh and uncalled for. We should always try to be understanding and not push people away from one of the best places to get info. We all have been new owners at one point in time and we all make mistakes. Thanks for the reminder. It's always good to step back and try and see it through others eyes. I hope people don't feel worried to post because they are going to being attacked. That doesn't help anyone. Have a good one guys

Sometimes users get angry when the advice requested is ignored especially if others have joined in on agreeance of the advice. Other times people may interpret the way things are said the wrong way as the emotion and tone of the words are absent in writing. Maybe some users have a hard time coming to terms that they've havent been providing an ideal home for their beloved pets..

In all of my posts, I try to put myself into the shoes of the poster and don't try to put people down. Having said that, based on the wealth of information that can be searched here, let alone google, there should be some common mistakes that should never occur.

At the end of the day, what it comes down to for me it what's right for the gecko.

I mean have you seen some of the kids on youtube that are 10 years old and have wayyyy to many reptiles that are not cared for due to the ignorance of the kid and the parents and are trying to post care videos even though they can't care for them themselves

It's horrifying to hear about the gecko abuse and death, and I can imagine being furious after giving advice that was ignored.

On another note, if I may say, as a Leo newbie, I try to do a lot of research and have found a good deal of misinformation, according to many on this forum. That makes me relieved, on one hand, that I found geckoforums.net. On the other hand, I have neurological issues that somewhat affect reading and some other minor issues. So I especially appreciate any help given in a respectful manner, and I try my best to do the same with animals I actually know more about.
