Just to make one point- a FARROWING crate for pigs is a very, very good thing. It is only for the period of time that the sow has just delivered and is nursing her piglets (2-4 weeks). It keeps the sow from crushing the piglets, which can be the death of up to 10-20% otherwise, keeps the piglets warm and the sow cool so that they all do better. A GESTATION crate is a crate that the sow is kept in for the length of gestation (3 months, 3 weeks, 3 days) where they rarely get to move around and can get all sorts of medical problems. This is a horrible practice that is outlawed in some states. The purpose is so that individual sow health and feed can be monitored (like a rack system) but the sows are not given enough space.
That reptile video had some very good points, but it saddens me that they had to make such extreme and absolute statements. Not all (or even most) of the commonly kept reptiles are wild caught anymore, and I really don't understand why some people hate reptiles and say they shouldn't be pets. But what they say about pet stores (they lie) and general knowledge pre-purchase (none) is absolutely accurate. Even at a reptile show sometimes I'm horrified by the misinformation coming out of people's mouths.
