I'm fascinated by them and want to learn all I can. When I feel I am ready I will start with an Eyelash Viper. Just checking to see if anyone here keeps them!
I can say B.schlegelii and any Atheris are easy- peasy and awesome to look at....
WELL, awesome to look at when they are not looking at you! Sorry for the waterspots on the glass- I dont clean the glass very often. In the fully planted terrariums, I really don't clean anything in there ever, actually.
Oh boy I'm hooked and really want to start a collection of Bush and Eyelash vipers. I feel I have enough snake experience to work with venomous, and I have the best mentor I could ask for (my husband).
Kelli- I see no reason why you wouldn't or shouldn't have a couple nice eyelash and bush vipers. There are so many nice cb ones available these days, and even though they are venomous I still consider them "intermediate" level (not deadly like a Taipan or Mamba) but more toxic (maybe) than a local copperhead. As for me, Atheris sp. are probably my favorites- small, so easy to house and feed (and inexpensive to feed), and always visible (not hiding in a hole or hidebox alll daaayyy loonnnggg).
Kelli, you know I keep and breed Atheris... LOL
I think an eyelash would be a good start and then get into Atheris after...
Remember, with Atheris, there is no AV and bites could prove fatal... Also, arboreal vipers can be quite tricky to hook and handle...
Anyway, you can have eyelash and bush vipers all in one snake... LOL
i have kept quite a few venomous(17 species), and a couple arborials, they are AWESOME animals...eyelashes are still my very favorite venomous snake ever!!!!! they are the coolest, and the fact that you probably wont die if you are bitten by them is also a good quality. and i quote "probably wont" die...everyone has a different reaction to different venoms, so if you happen to go into antifilactic shock(hope i spelled that right)...you could be in some trouble!
