Anyone heard of Bene-Bac?

I've never used that, and I am not a fan of freeze dried bacteria. I do however highly support the use of lactic acid bacteria for routine care of both plants and animals.

The price listed at the sites they recommend purchasing from is not very competitive.

I was just reading the description a little and it is a lactic acid bacteria.

We sell it at the store I work at and its very popular for birds but Im kind of curious if its as effective in reptiles. And if so then I might start trying to sell it more to people especially people with stressed animals.
I actually put some of it in with my slurry, but the freezing probably killed all the bacteria... owells was worth a try.

A while back when my dad decided he needed to rescue a feeder gerbil (don't ask me why..) he bought a kitten emergency kit...and there was bene-bac in there. He had me do some research to make sure it was ok for the gerbil to have and it turns out it's pretty much for all animals..

Benebac (Beneficial Bacteria) is the same stuff found in yogurt and acidophilus milk products. Since reptiles are lactose intolerant, it is questionable whether it is truly beneficial to them.

It's also an optional ingredient in the slurry recipe commonly recommended by leo owners.

Quote from the products description
"Bird Bene-Bac is a concentrated live culture of seven common bacteria found in the intestinal tracts of birds and reptiles. Bird Bene-Bac gel guarantees 10 million colony forming units (CFU) per gram of viable lactic acid producing bacteria."

O haha just noticed the powder has 25 million colony forming units (CFU) per gram :shocked3:

Also this person talks about using bene-bac for sickly leopard geckos in her slurry mix (Near the bottom of the page).

Not sure how sound this argument is becuase I just got out of work and am extremely exhausted but thought I might throw that out there and look it up later :)
