I get so fucking pissed at these people some times! "I just bred these geckos, but I don't know what they're going to make. Can someone help me?!"
"My two geckos are together and one was on top of the other. I think they might be breeding. Will two geckos breed if they're babies? Also they're on sand...is that bad?" "What is the difference between these geckos? I just bred them and I don't know what is going to come out of the breeding but I'm going to sell them and make new morphs!"

Seriously people...do some fucking research....

Rant done...

Nooo the best one's are the one's that go something like this..

"I'm new here and I NEED TO KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT LEOS!" .. Because I'm the idiot that went out to buy a gecko without researching a damn thing! Spring comes and I dunno everyone wants to stop by the pet store and pick up a leo just for the hell of it..

Very true guys. But you have to admit the worse ones are the ones that already know everything because the guy at the pet store told them what they needed to know. Leos love waxworms and make a great stable diet or My leo doesn't need uth the 150 bulb is good enuff. I don't claim to know everything but when I hear stuff like this I want to find "the guy at the pet store" and ask why would you say that. If you don't know DON'T GIVE ADVICE!
But I am a real asshole like that.

I dunno... after the way my season is going I'm beginning to wonder if I even know how to breed geckos or incubate eggs. Can all of you guys tell me everything I need to know in time for the shows I'll be vending 'nothing' at in September?

Whats the deal Marica. Is this just another bad year or what. Last year several people had trouble with there eggs and many people wonder if it had something to do with the mealworm issue. I was very lucky and didn't have any issues last year with eggs but I have made up for it this year. Sorry to hear you aren't having a good season.

The best is a breeder who had been breeding for years who does NO research in morphs of his own. Then when your having a nice conversation about possible morphs that you want to make (that you yourself have not fully finished the researched) you come to find out later the he is not only going with your idea but is calling it a Super Snow Cremesickle Sunglow, because I had my research on cremesickles wrong and thought it was Mack to sunglow. He of course did not research of his own!!! Sorry I hope my little rant applies to this thread......ill shut up now lol

I agree Eric that people can ask questions. But i also think they should be able to research things for themselves before they breed their geckos. It's not the questions about care and genetics that bother me. It's when people have already bred their geckos and then i try to tell them about genetics because they ask a question. Then when u give them an answer, they say they know it all.

And Marcia, sorry to hear about your season, it has to be better than ours. We've had like a 99% death rate with our eggs.

I was just complaining to my husband about this a couple days ago. I am no expert at all and still suck at percentages sometimes, but I did my research about morphs and genetics before I ever put two geckos together. It really annoys me when people just throw two geckos together when they know nothing about breeding. I'm glad people ask questions, but they should ask them before doing anything.

Marcia, are we having the same season? You too Mallorie? WTH............:main_huh:

I swear, some days, I think I've never hatched a leo baby in my life. I kid you not. That's OK, Marcia - you and I will vend nothing together..........*sighs*

And Mallorie, I cannot TELL you how very much I feel your pain about this subject...........I get emails EVERY DAY asking the same questions (even though I have caresheets on my website), and of course see them inundating the forums. I get incredibly frusterated, as I -( like you Kristi) did my research, and STILL do research, to figure out what I want to do, and PLAN for it - and yet there's lots of folks who seem to want someone else to do the thinking/research/etc. for them. UGH!!!! Why do it at all if it's handed to you on a silver platter? Where's the fun in that??!?! :main_no:

I've been getting a lot of pm's lately with people asking me questions on morphs and genetics. I'm not sure why they are picking me to ask, but I get the same questions from the same people a lot.

Sorry about everyone's bad season. I've had quite a few eggs I've had to toss.:( One female was bred twice and never laid any eggs. It can definitely be frustrating.

I do want to say thank you to anyone who has answered my questions. As much as I research, I don't always find the answers to my questions. I also love getting other's opinions on breeding projects. I hope no one takes it as me not knowing what to do.;)

Debbie- What's been happening with our eggs is that they seem to be fertile, the embryo developes maybe a week and then it dies...it goes past the due date and then dries out and I can see that they're all dying at the same age in the eggs. :( It's so strage. We've gotten cleaner, and fed our females more than ever this season only to get worse results than we had last year. Out of 20 clutches, we've had two hatch. :(

I second this. Sorry for anyone who is having a bad season

I have had some luck with Eric's technique of putting the papertowel that has been in a males tub into a group of females tub to get them to ovulate. Its cool because it doesn't stress out the females but they pick up on the males scent and they ovulate! I was quite impressed with the results when I tried it with a female who wouldn't ovulate for the past 5 months and then wham! 2 weeks after the paper towel trick she ovulated. Many of you have been doing this longer than me but I just thought I would share these results in case it would help. Also, thanks to Eric :)
