I just found my first leopard gecko, Arson, dead.

He was sick, but me and the vets could never figure out what he had. I miss him already and I can't stop crying. This really really really sucks.

Thanks guys. It's been a pretty rough morning. I'm going to have a necropsy performed whenever I can get my head straight.

I NEVER wanted to have to find him dead. Ugh, the heartache is unbelievable.

Well, I got the necropsy report back. Poor little guy had more going on than I thought. :( Here it is:

Hello Maia, I necropsied Arson today and had some interesting findings to share with you. His descending colon was very dilated and inflammed, the colon wall was very redened as well- so first diagnosis of inflammatory colitis. Both of his kidneys had a pitted textured appearance, they should be smooth and regular, which indicates kidney disease. His abdominal fat bodies were also small for his age, indicating he had some anorexia/disease process going on in the body for some time. All of these things placed together support a septicemic state, the only part I don't know is if the skin was the first cause or the colitis? Please call or email if you have questions and we can talk further. I know you are interested in breading so if you get a new male in the future I would like to do fecal testing right away. Please shoot me a quick email back to confirm you received this message. Thank you, Dr. Amanda Grant

I'm not so sure what to even think. I hate to say it, but I keep thinking to myself...If he was THAT sick, then why wasn't he hospitalized? I just hope he didn't suffer.
