It's not that graphic, because it is alive.
This is my first hatchling ever:
first%20baby.jpg

It was born on Halloween (on day 53), incubated for female at 82 degrees F. The egg had completely collapsed from both sides. It wasn't sweating, but I pipped it because I thought the fetus could not have survived in it, anyway - and out came a completely formed baby.

It is very small, and I don't think it will survive the night. It is beating with its tiny little tail, though, and moving its head - but the legs don't carry it and just lie there. :main_no:

Do you think it can survive? It's on a humid paper towel in a well-heated cage in its tupper ware box right now. I didn't want to leave it in the incubator, since its clutch mate is due to hatch soon.

Another question: The father is Valerian, my Jungle Rainwater Albino (pics are here). He was in with two ovulating females: Vilja (Rainwater Blazing Blizzard), and Ariane (Red Stripe). Who can be the mother? I took the two eggs out of the rock cave from under Vilja, but she's all white, and Valerian is yellow, but the baby is black and white.

Sorry, to hear this happened to your first Hatchling :(

I’d personally humanly euthanize her, right now. If she had a chance I’d give it to her, but there is now way she will live. :(

But the mother would be your redstrip, if it was your Rainwater Blazing Blizzard the gecko would be a rainwater, and it’s not.

She is definitely very small and weak, and didn''t absorb any of her yolk. She has a slim chance to survive, but I'd put her on moist paper towel ind a new deli cup and put her back in the incubator for the night.

I've seen these little ones thrive sometimes, and healther looking ones die... so it's worth a shot IMO... even if it's a slim one.

Baby didn't make it.... She's buried in the front yard. The good thing is, the dented egg of her sister has rounded up again, and will hopefully hatch in the next week or two. I still have 14 eggs in the incubator, but this would have been the very first one. Thanks for your comments, all!

I'm so sorry that you lost your first hatchling, Chrissy. :( She is in a better place now. The first and only Raptor I've ever hatched so far hatched looking quite the same way....only incubated for 31 days (I think that's right....) and I lost him during the night, as well. I know firsthand how very disappointing and heartbreaking it is. Keep your chin up!

The best of luck with the remaining eggs! Please keep us updated! It sounds like the 'sister egg' has a good chance!

Baby's sister is born!

Her name is Ohmygoodness (the first thing my friend said). She's very strong, fast, and vanished right now under a coco nut dome :D

And Denghi was curiously watching what was going on.... ;)

I know all too well what it's like to lose a pet (not geckos, but cats and dogs have passed away in my time), I'm terribly sorry.

Ohmygoodness looks brilliant though, and Denghi is very cute as well!
