well, we have hatched i think 10 babies now. My worry is that something is wrong with my incubator. The last 3 that have hatched have had the yoak on the outside of them. One hatched this morning, the other 2 were cluch mates. One is doing fine, but the other one passed away a few days ago. does anyone know why this is going on?

My other question is, This baby, if the picture comes out ok, was born with no color, he was one of the ones with yoak problems, could you please tell me what he might be. thanks a bunch!!

Not sure what's going on with the yolk thing, but he looks like some albino, probably tremper. Congrats on the little guy!!

Some babies hatch with their yolk sacs attached; it is supposed to fall off when they come out of the egg. Usually it is no problem. The babies are put on moist paper towels and either they absorb it or it falls off. Some babies are just not strong enough to survive. Here are some things to check:

what temp are you incubating at and how long is it taking the eggs to hatch (if the incubation time is not in line with the temp, maybe some of your babies are premature)

how steady are your incubation temps?

Are the babies that haven't survived from the same or different females?

If this has been a consistent issue: I'd have to guess that your incubating at too high a temperature--that baby is extremely light, and yes, it makes them more "pretty", but at what cost? They are even more light sensitive, generally hatch out smaller and weaker, and they have hormonal/behavioral differences as well. Alot of babies hatch out premature if the incubator is too warm, or it could be nutritional, genetic, or the incubator could be fluctuating too much--homeostasis is the key to breeding healthy creatures

thanks

Thanks for all of the info, I think it might of been that they were pre-mature. We incubate at 85-87. I think that the problem might also be that we just moved and that is when all of these hatched. I think the next ones will be good though I hope. once again, thanks for the info.
