Baby didn't make it.. *picture warning*

I hate when this happens.. the little baby went the entire incubation period and was due to hatch. It ended up sweating for way too long, and I decided not to pip it until I woke up this morning when it still hadn't hatched (total of 11 hours since it began sweating). Turns out the baby had a huge pocket/bubble in its throat and was missing its upper eyelids completely :main_no:

It would have been a very pretty SHCTB

I'm sorry the baby didn't make it. I have had a good number of babies that either died in the egg at a fairly advanced age, die just out of the egg or within 24 hours of hatching, and one baby who, despite all my efforts, was failing to thrive and died after about 2 weeks. I also have had 4 babies with mild to moderate birth defects, all of which I"m happy to say are thriving despite their defects. I guess it's part of the general leopard gecko picture for this season. I hope you have better luck with the rest of your eggs, and/or with next year's eggs.

Sorry to see this happen, Mike and Jess. I have seen a few hatch like that in the past, and none of them survived.
