Baby leo staying in moist hide, slightly duller in color

Hi everyone, I just got my first leopard gecko a few weeks ago. I did a lot of research before getting him but I'm having trouble finding an answer to my concerns. My baby leo (about 8 weeks old I think) looks a little bit duller in color for the past few days and he has also been mostly staying away from his hot hide, spending all day and most of the night on the other side of his enclosure, either in his moist hide or nearby it, next to the glass. I thought maybe he was about to shed, but I didn't see him do this, although I know he may have eaten his shed. It has been pretty hot here in San Diego for the past few days (and my room is quite warm) so I thought that might be it, but I'm just concerned, mostly because of his dull color and avoidance of his hot hide. He loved his hot hide before this. His poops are normal and he's still eating, and the heat mat under the tank is set to 90 degrees. Any recommendations? Am I just a neurotic new gecko parent or should I be worried? Thank you!
Photos: The first picture is him a few days ago (8/15) and the second of him doing the splits is from yesterday looking a little bit duller.

In the dull color picture he does look as if he's getting ready to shed. Some geckos just fall in love with their humid hides. It's summer, so this isn't so surprising. Most of my geckos here in New England are camped out on the cool side. He's probably fine.
