So I started trying to breed mealworms in January. A week ago I separated the beetles from the substrate. And for the longest time it just looked like used substrate. Well today I looked in, and thousands of babys!!!!!!
They're so cool to see when they're so so tiny.

Anyways I just thought I would post my excitement. AND since I was a total n00b at this in January, I'd be more than happy to help other because if I can do it, so can you guys.

I can post pics of my setup too if people want.:main_thumbsup::main_thumbsup::main_laugh::D

Congrats! How long did you leave the beetles on the substrate before removing them?
None of my leos ate the mealworms I bought, but instead of throwing them out i decided to breed them for fun. I have 25 beetles running around right now. How long did it take to see the babies after you had beetles?

I had beetles in the beginning of February. So I left the beetles on the substrate for about 8 weeks, and I'm seeing babies at 10 weeks. It's amazing how easy it was to develop a colony, it doesn't require anything special at all, just about 3-4 months to get started.

Thanks. It will be quite awhile for me then.
I'm trying to breed supers too, since my geckos actually eat them. I don't even have any pupae yet.

If you have an incubator toss them in the bator. I use a tackle box with the individual compartments, toss a big worm in 1 of the 24 compartments and place the tackle box in my incubator, within a week I normally have pupa. I keep my incubators at 84-86F.

I am not doing anything special with the beetles. I toss an egg crate into a 6 qt Sterilite, toss in a carrot, some chicken meal for food and I have larva. I started this project after RoninSTi start the journal on trying to raise supers.

Ok i'll post some pics tonight. Also there is no smell with colonies, other than the aroma of the progeckogutload. And thats a vitamin/herb smell. It's actually pleasant.
