..beef with the big breeders..

alright everyone, no bullshit, I want everyone's imput,

over the past few months, I have seen people acting negatively towards breeders such as Craig Stewart and Ron Tremper. Alot (not everyone) of people seem to just bash them instead of praise them for what they have brought to the leopard gecko market. and of coarse, the whole shin dig with Matt a few months ago, but, there were probably several confrontations and misunderstandings that led up to, what happened when Matt was booted off the forum.

so, i figure this is the place to put it, even if it is about a different breeder you have a problem with... i am curious to hear. no holding back!

Craig Stewart is great, in my opinion. I don't like Ron Tremper. He has done some great things for our hobby, but in my opinion lacks some integrity. I don't understand how someone who loves reptiles could possibly not feel guilty about being a major supplier of chain stores like *****. I feel he treats his animals too much like a product, and doesn't give the animals a lot of respect. Even the blue leopard gecko photographed looked to me to be pretty thin in the tail, and kind of weak. The blue was really cool though.

At the same time, I have to give him credit for being able to create for himself a great career in a field I have to believe he loves.

I have no problem with big breeders on the whole...
TUG animals are awesome... They make up my entire tangerine line... I just didnt like the black pearls... That has nothing to do with Craig because he was not the originator of the morph...

On to the subject of Ron Tremper... He is without a doubt the creator of more morphs than anyone in the business... He is a great breeder and business man... Many, if not all of the RT haters are clearly jealous... Here is a quote from a very good friend of mine...

Anyone who talks about Ron in a negative way obviously has no clue about his history and contributions he has made to this hobby and are listening to people who clearly do not like him with no good reason other than he has done numerous times what many WISH they can do even once... He does not lack any integrity... This how the man makes his living and pays his bills and sends his kids to school... People need to stop looking at this from a small breeder/hobbiest point of view... If you had the chance to sell to these big chain stores and make a few hundred grand a year doing so, YOU would...

As far as Matt goes, he has done some silly things to get himself booted from the site... Thats a given... Although Matt is not a big breeder, he is working for/under the guidence of a big breeder... The people at A&M, in particular Alberto, are really cool and knowledgable... My only beef with them are the 20 dollar high end Enigmas on the table at the shows... Other than that, how much bad can you say about a breeder who has made the most Enigma combos before anyone else and not to mention the other cool projects they are working on??? Not much really...

I'm definatly not jealous of Ron Tremper, or anyone at all. I admire a lot of what he has done, and when I was young I actually looked up to him a lot. As I grew up and realized who I was myself, I learned I could never do what he does. I could never work for an importing company, and I would never work for a company like LLLReptile. I take pride in standing by my values.

As I said before, I greatly respect a lot of what he does, and I'm glad atleast it's someone as experienced as Ron Tremper. If it wasn't him, it'd be someone else, and honestly, probably a lot worse.

So basically what you are saying is you do not like/respect the types of establishments or people that are directly or indirectly responsible for you being able to have the beautiful animals you now keep... Is this correct or am I confused??? Are you saying that RT, LLLReptiles, and all importing companies have no pride or values??? Is this just me being confused again???

That's definatly you being confused. Or you purposely stretching what I'm saying, because I made it pretty clear, and you're a smart guy Gregg. All I'm saying is that it's undeniable that these establishments take less than great care of these animals. Which is why I don't support these businesses with my money, and make the choice to pay the higher prices of breeders who I can feel completely confident in.

Honestly to each his own. I really don't read about the big top breeders that found/created a lot of the amazing morphs we have in circulation now but I have to say RT really turned me off when he posted pictures of his tubs, they were so disgusting. Does that say anything about him being a good breeder I dunno but I just know I didn't like it. Even though you might not like the "Big Guys" for whatever reason you should atleast give them credit for what they've done whether or not you agree with what they've done.

You have to remember at the end of the day it's mainly business you can't exactly hate them for that.

I was never able to ask him but was it actually HIS business? Or did he work side by side with someone, etc? A&M was originally Alberto's but you never seemed to hear about him just Matt.
