I started a mealworm colony recently, and it seems like every time I check on the beetles they are upside down in their wheat bran and don't seem able to right themselves. Are they really stuck or are they just screwing with me?

Oh jeez! That last part just made me burst into laughter. "Are they just screwing with me." XD I want to say, "yes, meal worm beetles are notorious for their mind tricks.", but I would guess that they just happen to get flipped over from all the movement of the meal worms and like a turtle, they just have a hard time righting themselves. Or perhaps they are dying. Hopefully someone else will answer that knows more than I do.

They are young beetles, about a week for the oldest, and in a seperate container from the worms. Little bastards are probably just having a laugh at my expense.

They are TOTALLY messing with you. LOL

J/K

Just give them a piece of paper towel in there, they will be able to use it to climb along(upside down), then right themselves when they get to the edge, or climb up over the top.

Sometimes they do seem to get stuck on their backs, especially when young. They get more adept at righting themselves when mature. (Or maybe they are just messing with you . . . that reminds me of the funny TV commercials "Messin' with Sasquatch" . . . too funny! :main_laugh:)
