Best age to tell the sex?

Hi Everyone!

I have a leo about 6 months old. I wanted to make sure that it was a male and I know how to sex a gecko, but I was wondering the proper age to tell the sex.

You should deffinately be able to tell by 6 months of age.

You can't tell the sex by anything but looking at the reproduction organs. The hemipenal bulge and the pre-anal pores are the only way to say for sure the sex of a gecko. Males do generally have a bigger head and neck and are heavier in weight but its not always.

are you referring to identifying by their adult weight or if at x grams you should be able to tell? If you mean by their weight you can tell the soonest, I would say it depends on your skill and experience but 12g i can tell pretty much all of them. At 6months though you should be able to tell for sure.

I have accurately sexed my 2 at 1 month old. The pores in both males were clearly visible at that age.

umm i would say garm wise about 25 grams for sure, but depending on your magnification level about 14 grams
