Hello! i‘m new to the forum, I’m getting a gecko soon, and was wondering what the best companion gecko is, I know reptiles can’t actually love you, but they get close!

It really depends on the gecko. Some geckos of any species don't mind being held and even like to walk all over their person and others hate it. People often get more response from larger lizards. I really enjoy my bearded dragon and I can let her run around the downstairs during the day.

Welcome! Geckos do best alone they’re territorial, so companions can cause stress or fights. What kind are you getting?

I used to have a bearded dragon, he died sadly, get larger lizards being more companion like, I’ve seen a ton of videos, but I can’t afford the space for them so geckos it is!

In my personal opinion, I think leopard geckos have slightly more personality than cresties, but it varies a lot. Like my crestie likes to crawl on my all day long, and will sleep on my shoulder, but others will be much more skiddish.
Good choices! I’d go with a leopard gecko. Very friendly, easy to care for, and great for interaction.
I get that, my cousin‘s leopard gecko is WAY more skittish then most i mean we did just get her so I shouldn’t have been surprised by that. The only issue I have with a leopard gecko is the only spot I could put the vivararium is under the vent in my room which isn’t really ideal, plus the morph sometimes having bad genetics just isn’t worth the risk in my opinion. So I might just get a crested, I really want a chahoua but I don’t have the funds right now.

Yeah, that vent spot could make it tricky to keep temps stable for a leo. Cresteds are a solid pick. They handle room temps better and don’t need extra heat if your room stays above 70°F. Just keep humidity up and add plenty of vertical space since they love to climb. A healthy crestie with a simple setup can be just as rewarding

Yeah, I ended up getting a crestie, he’s really chill and I love him already. I’m working on the enclosure but I don’t have the funds to make it the best right now, Greg doesn’t seem to care so far.
