If your not in it for the money then I would just start collecting the geckos morphs you like and breed them. Leo's will always sell if the price is right. Since your not in it for themoney you can sell your babies cheap. Just my thoughts.

This may sound contradictory, but I've always thought that if I ever breed geckos I would sell them a bit more expensive than their real price. And it's because I'm not in it for the money.

I don't know how the situation may be in the USA (I guess you are some steps ahead of us), but in Spain a lot of people buy animals without getting information about them, and don't really care about them, because they are cheap. They think that if they die, they just can buy another one. The bill from the vet will be probably much more expensive than buying a normal gecko.

Here, the idea of investing in animals of rare colorations hasn't instilled too much yet. You will often see people that complains on the price of everything that costs more than 50€.

I think that if I sell geckos at high prices, careless people will treasure them more. Even if that means that less people will buy from me.

How would you solve this problem? Because you can never know who will take good care of them by just talking by e-mail.

i think breed every kind of animal is not a "just for fun" working.
if you whant take fun go in vacation or go to the disneyworld (if you like disney)...
..but breed EVERY kind of animals is a big responsability..you need to take care of them and found the best new family for babies...
if you like leos and what to try the emotion to breed them start with some morph you like (don't serch only the best sell morph)...

I do see what you are saying.

I breed Bearded dragons, and i do have a friend that will take care of my animals. He has taken care of them for up to a week, and i take care of his animals when he is gone so that is not a problem.

My thing is that if i breed them i dont want to have them for a year, and they dont sell. That is why i asked that question.

This sound a little contradictory, LOL! Actually, it's a good question.

Right now there are so many leopard geckos for available sale that even well-known, established breeders are having a hard time moving them. The market is saturated because everyone who keeps leos wants to breed them! What sells will be different every season, and will also depend on the supply and demand, just like any other market.

If you decide to breed, stick with what YOU like, and do it better than everyone else. :)

I do think it's going to be apart of fun for me personally, I enjoy taking care of them and watching them. I can't wait to have babies!

I did choose my fav morphs for my first projects, not because they would sell well or not just because I like the morphs. When I do sell them it will be for cheap.

I think Raptors are the best bet, but you'd want to start with a high quality group. Otherwise you'll always be playing catch up with the competition.

Mack Snows are in my opinion still in the beginning stages and are a good choice as well. Their prices have dropped a lot this season, but that's just for your average Mack. The best choice of Mack Snow project at this stage would be any line bred trait such as Super Hypo, Super Hypo Albino (Hybino), and Aptor/Raptor (line bred IMO). With those morphs; the better the quality the higher the demand and a higher price.

There's also the Enigma which is still on the ground level or maybe even in the basement... LOL!

All that aside, it's like what everyone else said, choose what you like. Furthermore, if you're not accepting of the chance you'll have surplus geckos after a season you might want to keep it small. Get a nice 1.2 group and go with it...

Exactly the same here in Hong Kong!! This is the reason why I don't breed any of my geckos at all, no matter how much I wanted to breed them!!

I feel the same way, start out small, with your favorite morph, I started with Red Stripes and RW Albinos and then as I went I got into SHTCTB and anything in that class I stated adding Tremper, Blizzards and now Macks and Bells. Next year I will start breeding some of the Sunglows, Aptors and Raptors.Once you have some project ideas then you add what you need from there. I have lots of plans for next year but I know to not let it go to my head, the joy of watching a baby hatch and seeing what it is the best but if it comes out not like expected its no big deal just keep trying. This hobby has to stay fun and exciting but there is a big responsibility when you start breeding any animal so you must keep that in mind and do right by the animals you breed . So like everyone says the most important thing is to start small with your fave morph and you won't be disapointed, As you go you learn what people like and let me tell you everyone is different so a variety is good to have after you have been in it for awhile. And as for pricing, I go with the flow and look at what others are charging for a certain morph. If there is a big difference, I examine why there is a big difference and price accordingly. Usually right in the middle. You can always lower your prices when needed that way. There is so many breeders out there use your head when breeding. If you find a certain morph doesn't sell good i n your area do not breed a bunch of them the next time. I hope this helps, Deb

Can we please stop commenting that this is a big responsibility. I know that its a big responsibility, not a big deal to me. ok?

Excuse me for expression my oppinion and its also the oppinion of many of us here. But I was only repeated that because if I was to just say keep it fun I would get flack myself. Because breeding is not just all fun and games. You asked and we responded. I am begining to feel this is a money game to you--which morph will bring you the most money so I won't repond to your posts anymore! Because having a attitude when all we are doing is trying to help you, isn't cool to me!

Why get defensive? You asked for opinions and they are being given. No one is judging you, just facts and opinions are being stated. Deb's post was very positive as she was just trying to be helpful.

And what do you guys think about snows and super snows?

IMO, I would go lower end, as you are not an established breeder. Who's to say after your first season you decide this is not for you. Not being established you will have a hard time selling these for what they are worth, or be able to sell them at all.

No I believe it's being said, because we have seen so many new breeders come and go, and just wanted to give you all the information that you need, so that you make the right choice.
