Thanks Chris! I am going to have both. I just ordered some dubia from james and I will call the guy you told me about tomorrow to see about what I need to do to get them shipped here. Stupid laws.

Dubia roaches are soooo much more expensive than crickets... (I wonder if it's because there are fewer breeders.) Anyway, it's too bad because they sound like a good alternative. :(

They may be more expensive, but they fill up your gecko much faster too. Besides, the smell, maitenance, and die off is a LOT less.

I jsut swtiched my beardie and one of my breeder females to roaches, and im really impressed. My beardie(11 month old) used to go through 20+ each day of crickets, but now eats about 10 or so adult lobster roaches a day. Im also very pleased with the ease of maintinence of the roaches and they make no noise or dont smell. Im all around pleased with them.

The reasons are, They are a slower breeder roach BUT Dont smell, Cant Fly, Dont climb! They are huge also (around 2" but very meaty!) Once you get a good colony rolling it is well worth the $60 to get started. I have bought my dubias from theroachguy.

I got 200 from James for 72.50 shipped and 300 plus 2 lbs gutload from theroachguy for 91.15 shipped. Theroachguy is cheaper since he doesn't charge shipping for roachs, but I've never bought from him before; I should get his roaches in this week, so we'll see if they're worth it. Ha.

I know my leopard geckos liked the dubia better than discoids; I haven't tried them on the cresteds yet. Wish I had seen a deal of 800-1000 for $150.

Hopefully starting a self-sustaining roach colony is easy. Otherwise, I could place at least a dozen orders of 500 crickets at $12 each before breaking even with Dubias. That's a lot of crickets, but I do like those benefits.
