Big Fright!!

I have a pair of hatchlings, Bandit and Daisy. Coming home from school, I checked they were doing all right as usual. But I couldn't see Daisy! I felt a knot form in my chest and I was very confused at how she could have escaped!

Then, by sheer luck, I saw a little hand! The food bowls I give them have a half centimetre "arch" on two sides, and she managed to get under there! I was so relieved that I saw her. I have cats and dogs and wouldn't like to think what could have happened. She has come out from under the bowl and hasn't a clue she gave me the fright of my life! :main_laugh: :main_laugh:

One of mine always goes under a log
that is kindof like an upside down T...
and there is a tiny arch that they can hide under...
The second day I think I lost him and checked everywhere...pick up the log to double check he wasnt there...and when i was putting it down, i saw a head peaking out of the log...and it turns out the part that goes straight up is hollow.

Yeah, you really have to be careful, esp with the little ones. They can get into places that you woulnt think of. They can ball themselves up into very small places.

We had a hatchling actually get out ( a friends little boy had opened the lid on his bin and didn;t shut it back) earlier this month. We tore this house apart and didn't find him. He was gone for 9 days. I was getting roaches out of the roach tub and heard this scraping inside the tub. I made my husband dig around in the egg crates in there and lo and behold there was Petey. He had only lost 2 grams ( down to 10 from 12). He was a little cold but other then that he was no worse for wear. I had been sure that we had lost him for good.

He must not have been in the roach bin for very long. My husband swears that he looked in EVERYTHING in that room. The room that the roaches are in is a little cooler so I thought maybe he didn't eat alot because of lack of belly heat.

I'm glad you found him alive and safe.

I'm afraid that if one of mine got out (highly unlikely) it would be a long drop to the floor :main_no:
