WOW. Please don't call the gecko police on me, cuz I havent fed my gecko in weeks. I finally got my hands on some worms, but unfortunately all they had were superworms. I knew they were big, but this is ridiculous. I fed her one, just to see if I needed to cut them in half or something, and she gobbled it up like it was her last meal. Keep in mind, these things are about a third as big around as she was, seeing as she hadn't eaten in forever, and about a third as long as she was. I am stupefied by the superworms.

Superworms are good meal fillers, and it's probably no wonder why she ate it, if she hadn't eaten in a few weeks:main_thumbsup:. There are some good websites to get mealworms, the one I just got a shipment from http://www.nyworms.com, it's cheap there, and I just got 1,000 yesterday from them, from what I could see, none dead.

Oh, and the mealworms, if you get Medium size, are small enough for an anole to eat, and definetely a frog. I used to have some green anoles, they loved them^^.

yeah, but it's painful to breed them, and I can't give them to my anoles or my frog (also starving). I got them some crickets.

I kind of know how you feel. My pay didn`t come in as usual so I haven`t been able to feed my geckos much. Two crickets till I know when I am getting money. My order is in, just a matter of paying for it.

Well superworms are at least 1 inch. Thats what I've seen them. I really don't recommended feeding it to young leopard geckos, but when they are an adult my leopard gecko can only eat 4 of them because of how big they are and she eats 3 crickets aswell. So you should stick with mealworms if your leopard gecko is that small.

Oh, No

Super Mealworms are just SUPER BIG.

A Regular almost full grown mealworm that has been well fed is just over an inch in length.

A SUPER MEALWORM is almost 2 inches in length. They are more than twice as round and they move FAST.

Later today I will take an actual measurement.

My 5 - 6 month old Leo will eat 4 of them.

Daveim - why are they painful to breed them.

My 4 month old super snow has been eating 1-2 superworms a day and loves them. She was only 11 grams when we started and is now up to 15 grams.

I am starting my female on superworms to. Hoping to help her gain some weight. Of course I will still feed her mealies and cricks also.

you have to seperate the worms to pupate them, and it takes a while and most of them die in the proccess of coaxing them into pupation.

Superworms are actually a totally different worm, the thing is a lot of the worms sold as "superworms" are not actually anything of the sort. They are as you say overgrown mealworms, often treated with growth hormones.

The true name of the superworm is Zoophobas morio worms and if you're buying superworms you should make sure that it is this type you are actually getting. ;)

EDIT: Incidentally, superworms are far more nutritious than mealworms as there is a lower percentage of chitin (Ie. they are more meaty!)
They are unsuitable anything other than a fully grown adult, and I would still be wary. Full grown mealworms are plenty big enough.

I just gave Tiamat three small superworms and she actually ate them with relish! :) I think I'll continue to get them for her as it'll be a nice deviation from her regular all-mealworm diet. That is, when she DOES eat. I'm pretty sure she's brumating right now so she's even stopped eating crickets. :\

I was a little wary of giving them to her though as I've heard horror stories about the superworms' exoskeleton causing internal bleeding or that they'll still be alive when the gecko swallows them and they bite the inside of their stomachs. :x

I also get my supers and mealies from NYWorms their shipping methods aren't the greatest, but I'm happy with the worms. I pick out the smaller ones and the freshly shed ones for my smaller geckos. I move them from meal worms to supers at about 4 months old. I feed them head first to all my geckos so that their head gets chomped and they dont bite. But I have had no problems feeding them to younger geckos. Its easier and cheaper. My geckos go nuts for them, I think they like having more movement to their food.

I feed almost exclusively Zoophobas (supers) and mealworms...never had a problem with either! My leos LOVE the Zoophobas and gobble them down every time. My males eat up to five every other day and my female..well, she's picky. She likes one or two supers plus a bunch of crickets or mealies :p

I am currently trying to start a colony of Zoophobas but the beetles are not nearly as hardy as my darkling beetles (or so it seems). Hopefully they laid eggs before they died. Time will tell.
