im starting to breed mealworms and ive already got some pupae, just waiting for them to turn into beetles and lay some eggs...

since i only have one leopard gecko right now, i know ill probably only need a few beetles

my question issss... what should i do w/ all the other unwanted/unneeded pupae/beetles?

living in FL, would it be ok to just throw the excess beetles outside? or should i just wait until they die/kill them? im not really sure what kind of impact this would have on the ecosystem here...

thanks,
andrew

In my opinion, you may as well just keep all the beetles and breed the mealworms. With the shortage, you could sell the extras. When I have extras, I sell them on craigslist for $1 per 100 or $5 for 80 grams which are approx. 1000. (No, I don't have any for sale now and will not ship them).

I doubt they will destroy your local ecosystem lol. They wont survive very long outside anyways (no oats or grains to eat).

My geckos actually eat the pupae so when times get rough you can try feeding those. My geckos wont touch the beetles though...so I feed the dead beetles to my turtles. Everything gets recycled and everyone gets feed! :)

If you really don't want the extra beetles, you can just throw away the pupae; that's what I do.
