So I am just kinda wondering how everyone's season is going and just wanted to check. I hope everyone is having some kind of success this year. Just wanted to start a thread and find out. Would love to know. :main_thumbsup:

Last year wasn't great by any means for me. I had 4 times as many infertile eggs as fertile ones but this year is going a lot better. I have 3 females giving me eggs and haven't had a dud yet. I have 4 hatchlings from the 3 and 11 more eggs in the incubator. One of them is only giving me single egg clutches but that's okay for me. It keeps the overall numbers down and i'd prefer that. I don't breed every female I have so it allows me to possibly add another pair for breeding later in the year. I find that if I breed too many at once that it becomes more like work then something enjoyable. I would rather keep it that way too. There are 2 main reasons people get burnt out on reptiles. One they overestimate the possibilities in regards to money and two is the amount of work is well over what they thought it would be. I am glad that I am not in either one of those categories.

I also have another 2 which are first year breeders that I am waiting on to lay. I am getting excited to see what happens in the future with those 2 projects. I hope everything comes out as well as I hope. They have some potential for the future.

Well if you would like to post how your season is going then I would like to know. :D

Thanks for asking. Things didn't start out well, but they have been getting better. I had about 10-12 bad eggs in a row, mostly due to first timers and geckos laying eggs in the wrong place. Now I have 10 eggs in the incubator with most of the geckos starting to produce regularly. Two of the eggs are fat tail eggs with hopes for more. I'm also waiting for my SW banded gecko to lay. First hatch is due about the first week in May. I'm also hoping I don't produce too many. 40-50 works well for me; a few years ago I had 90 through some sort of fluke and it wasn't fun.

Why do u thing it was 38% hatch rate.Any ideas what went wrong??

I only bred one female and she was a first year breeder. Also, my thermostat fluctuated too much but luckily this year I got a new thermostat.

Last year I don't know what happened. I had many second year breeders as well as first year breeders that threw nothing but slugs. I think I roughly had 30-40 duds and a dozen viable eggs. I was happy to get the few that I did though. Made the season worth it. I had no real issues that would cause the high rate of infertile eggs so I just figure that is the young age.

It seems like if females are going to throw infertile eggs then it either going to be in the first or last set of clutches or at least from my experience. You figure that they would be spread out just because of chance but the factors such as supplementation, breeding date compared to ovulation period, and so on effect it. I wonder what causes first year breeders to have a higher chance of having infertile eggs? Is it the jump start of the reproductive system that causes a lack in vitamins in the body or the something else?

The leo season isn't amaziong for me, infact its probably been the worst so far. BUT it could be worse.

My first year of breeding Mourning gecko's is going great however :)

This is my first year breeding regular and Bell Albinos. So far only my regular female has been producing. She's been 50/50 hatch wise. I have one of hers incubating now though so hopefully it'll come through.

My female Bell kept rejecting my male until recently. I'm expecting her first clutch in about 1 1/2 weeks. Better late than never!

Yep, I always have late seasons. Good luck!

P.S. I like the Harry Potter themed leo names!
