Well not broken... Just not staying with the females anymore this season...

Although this is not a leo it does show a hemipenal prolapse... Something that all reptiles can get including leos... The prolapse took 2 days to receed with the help of a sugar water bath and the application of Preparation H three times a day... The treatments stopped after the third day and he is 100% fine... This is what can happen when you breed reptiles and you should know how to deal with it if it happens...

Pic of hemipenal prolapse in a Yellow Ackie.

Great informative post!

I've used the sugar water bath several times for a few clients, the way it was explained to me is that it all has to do with osmosis ( I think I remember this...)....the sugar/water mix ends up sucking up the fluid that causes the swelling, since the pressure in the solution is lower than the pressure in the prolapsed organ, making it easier for the organ to retract back to where it's supposed to be....am I right, Gregg?

Maia, that is pretty much the way it was explained to me as well...I would liken it more to diffusion rather than osmosis for ease of understanding, but yeah I guess they are one in the same almost...

Thanks for the information Gregg. Does it matter if they lick the area with Preparation H? I've seen my geckos licking/cleaning that area many times; just thinking if I put any ointment on them they would probably try to lick that clean.

Put it this way. Preparation H is non-toxic and I am sure most of us would rather have a mouth full of Preparation H than to have our reproductive organs cut off...:main_laugh::main_thumbsup:
