Can I see some examples of your humid hides?

I don't feel like the one I have is sufficient enough for my girls. Here's a picture. I think I may have cut a hole too big in the entrance. I was worried that a small hole would be bad...even though I get that it would keep more moisture/humidity. Also, you're supposed to place it on the hot side, correct?

Any help would be appreciated

The hole is a little big about half that size would be fine, youd be amazed the small things they can fit in. The smaller the better they feel its a place to hide for one and two it keeps it more humid inside. and yes in order for it to stay humid it goes on the hot side.

Here's a pic of my tub with the humid hide. I have the heat cable running underneath the tubs so that only half on the humid is getting good heat and the other half isn't as warm.

This humid hide could hold two big females. I like to cut holes on the top so they can't push moss, coco fiber... or any other substrate you have in here. The hole you cut is rather big and might allow moisture to sneak out faster. Hope I could help. :)

I use the round containers my butterworms come in.
I cut a small hole in the side of the cup, and fill the container with moss.
I find that when the hole is on top instead of on the side, some of my 'dumber' geckos dont know how to enter it.

Thanks for showing me your humid hide. I was thinking about buying this and using it for the humid hide. What do you think?

I've noticed in peoples YouTube video's that a lot of them use this as well as your photo's. This looks more natural, and they put moss in it, etc.

My mothers friend uses these with her snakes and her leo. They work nice. They conduct heat well too. The snakes seem to perffer them to half logs and burrowing.

i too out the center of the lids, glued the rims back to back and tada!! *SPARKELS*

I use cocofiber, these thing holds a lot of it and stays humid for about 4-7 days without out intervention. The gecko absolutley loves it. The last 2 pics are rough cuts, i tapped the edges.

How come everybody seems to make these by flipping the container upside down? Is that what I should do as well? What's the advantage?

Also when you say you taped the edges, what kind of tape did you use?

clear scotch, and mine is rightside up. I dont know why people flip them over, thats kinda deffeating the purpose. Like with yours(NOT being mean, just example). You have it flipped over, the surface is flat with the tank bottom, if you had say cocofiber in there(WAY more humid then papper towel) the gecko would push it out and make a mess. When you have the lid on top and a hole in the top/highside you can put quite a bit of substrate in there, then i found that it was too flat for the gecko to sit up right(my fault, a bigger hide would fix this). So i made the top high using another container.
This has worked out well, the substrate is below the opening, so it stays in. The humidity is above the opening so it stays in. This way you get the best of it.

Thatd be exactly what i use. the one brick lasts atleast a couple of months if not even longer. You can get it at most petstores cheap. Mine was $2 and that was at my highly overpriced(we are talking $15 a pound for tile) LPS. Or just go pick up a cube of the stuff in the walmart garden center XP. Its used in seeding lol. Theres also the optio of spahnum moss wich can be purchased at any self respecting garden center. Your hide could be turned into one like mine with ease, you just need a tupaware container the same or similar size.

I just ordered the coco fiber.

Only thing is our gecko doesn't seem to use the humid hide. I did see him in there briefly tonight after I made the opening come down the side a little (it was only on top before, and I never saw him in it), but he didn't stay in it long. I think it's too small, but I'm not sure. I'm going to get a larger plastic container and make a new one.
