...wondering why a catahoula, visla, thai ridgeback, & swissy are on there for comparison...lol

I've known small towns where BSL was just adopted and dogs of all sorts were being taken because the cops thought they were APBT. One of those dogs was a mama catahoula with puppies. Pure bred. People will stretch when trying to find similarities on a breed they don't like. White boxers are commonly mistaken as well because (and this was the excuse the cops gave the animal shelter lady who told them it was a boxer) "boxers don't come in white."

I saw a news report of a SUPPPOSED Pit Bull attack, and the dog was actually a Rottie, how can anyone mistake a Rottie for a Pit is beyond me, but it definitely does happen!

So many people are confused as to what a REAL pitbull should look like. They think pits are supposed to be those huge monstorous dogs with the huge block heads and think 'the bigger the better' so many people have lost sight of what a true pitbull is

As history tells it, the most vicious and best fighter was the smaller 15-25 pound dogs versus the larger more muscular dogs.

Personally, I like the larger heads on some bloodlines, but I will admit they are no where near the appearance of the original dogs.

Jeanne, I wish I could re-edit my post because I just thought of this, but in regards to the rottweiler attack that was put on the media as a "pit bull" attack.. They'll stretch. I've seen pure APBTs with markings identical to rotties. I mean Abbie, has similar colors just more brown than a rott. People will stretch limitations and characteristics just to claim a dog to be of the "pit bull" classification. It furthers the fear and bad rep.

But, like I mentioned in that article, German Shepherds and a myriad of other breeds, in their time were as feared as the "pit bull" is today, and now look at them... They're beloved family pets. The American Pit Bull Terrier will have its day again. One day, the general consensus will love them as they did years ago during the times when they were terrified of the other breeds (obviously the breed differing depending on the era).

I have owned tosa inu, rednosed pitbull, bandogge(neo x pit), fila , dogue de bordeaux, cane corso and neopolitan mastiff.... All those breeds are for head strong people, but make loving lapdogs. I feel that their is no such thing as a bad dog, only BAD OWNERS.

no joke.... I adopted 8 pitbulls and one bandogge(110# big headed pitbull with fairly loose skin) that were all fighting dogs. I taught them to love eachother and after 2 months they fell into the pecking order of the pack. I adopted 7 of the pitbulls to families with children 8-15yrs old and the eighth was a 6yr old 58# companion for a 70 year old woman.

Pitbulls are not a bad dog by all means!

YAY we got it right ;)
Fun exercise!

I have a good friend who was breeding pit bulls, and everyone of her puppies, plus parents, were poisoned by her neighbors just because of bad rumors... she kept them in pens and everything, never had any problems... this was in a VERY small town, where rumors mean more than just facts (sad but true) and little if anything was done about it.

That's a very good article, who wrote it?

I did... I took the intro from parts of "The Pit Bull Placebo," as mentioned in the beginning, but the rest came from research and experience.

Where's the American stafford bull terrier-(Amstaff) and the UK Staffordshire bull terrier. It would have been a harder test if these two breed was included as they share key traits wirg the pitbull that make them look very much alike.I hope they haven't stuck pitbull terrier/Amstaff/staffordshire bull terrier all in the same boat as one breed as being pitbulls.
