Canon PowerShot?

I'm looking for a new digital camera. Mine is only about a year old, but I've noticed more pictures being blurry and a weird yellow tint on every few pictures. It's only a year old and still perfectly fine, but I just want something newer.

So, anyway... I'm curious if the Canon PowerShot SD990 IS or the SD970 IS is any good.

If you have a better suggestion, I'm all ears. I'm looking at spending between $300-$400. I want a good camera that will hopefully last a little bit.

I'd prefer it to be about the size of the Canon PowerShot.

I have the SD890 IS and it works AMAZING!

I also have a SD450 from a few years ago, that still takes amazing pictures.

Canon's are the way to go.

I have a Canon PowerShot SX110 IS, it is AMAZING(a HUGE step up from my last camera, at least-a 50 dollar Kodak). Here's a picture I took with it(Canon) -
IMG_0612-1.jpg

It's 9 megapixels, 10X optical zoom. It fits perfectly in my hand, not as bulky as other Canons tend to be.

The camera I´m using is a little Ricoh Caplio R6.
Lotta said I should try it out and it works great. All her pics are taken with this camera too and they´re awesome...
and it´s not expensive:main_thumbsup:

Wait!

If you're looking to spend $300-$400, why not look into a DSLR?
You can easily get a Nikon D40 w/kit lens for probably under $400.
And, imo, if you can learn how to use a DSLR, you'll find it takes better pictures.

I was looking for something more compact-style. Is the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS more compact or the handheld?

I like the DSLRs, but they're a little big for me.

Rebecca, The D40 that I saw was only a 6.1 MP?

megapixels do not matter unless you are planning on blowing up the pictures to poster/billboard size.

If you plan on using the camera to produce prints for framing or photo books, or if you plan on using them for a website or internet use, the megapixels of the D40 are PLENTY enough for those purposes.:D

We have the A1000 IS and it's never let me down, takes excellent, detailed pics :main_thumbsup: 10 Megapixels, which we prefer because we like to zoom into our pics and get close-ups with the greatest amount of detail. Small, fits in my hand.. nice :main_yes:

The Canon Power Shot S3 IS... It is basically a point and shoot/SLR hybrid... Not bulky like a DSLR though... Nice size camera... You can also get lenses for it too... I love it...

You're right, but my 7.3mp isn't the best quality at all times, and it's rated a good camera.

But I highly doubt your megapixels have to do with any lack of quality your camera may or may not have.

There are a lot of NICE point and shoots out there, I was just suggesting a DSLR since you were going to spend as much for a point and shoot that a DSLR costs, and a DSLR allows you way more control of your pictures.;)

Well, I'm actually selling my Rebel XTi and it's a "smaller" DSLR. It's the entrance, if you will, to DSLR's and it's really a great camera. If you get the right lens to go with it, then it really makes it an awesome camera. But of course for price range, I'm looking to sell just the camera body itself for approx. $400, so that's at the top of your price range. But if you do a bit of searching, you can find it cheaper than that, like $300 for example on craigslist.

But if you look into them, they really are a good lightweight camera, but depends on just how lightweight you really want. I have heard the powershots are good cameras. But here is a good review on the Rebel: http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EOS-400D-Digital-Rebel-XTi-Review.aspx

Anyway, just giving my opinion, not trying to sell you anything, promise :)!

i have a canon s3 IS also, 6mp, but bought it 2 yrs ago almost for $340 incl 4gb memory card and rechargeable batteries

I use the super macro all the time.:main_thumbsup:

iSO is only 800 max, one thing i dislike, but overall nice pics.

does video also, time lapse, many custom and auto settings for images, and stitch assist.

probably the coolest thing is the multi-position flexible screen, so i can stick the camera into a gecko bin and take pics/vido while not having my head in there ;)

the camera body is not too compact, though, more like an in between SLR--compact hybrid

MP over 4 can make full page magazine images. I know because my original canon 1D is 4.1 MP(shoots files in the 2.4mp range) and I have gotten a few full page images in mags from it. Don't worry about MP as much as your needs. Low light capability? ISO range (50-800 is great for most shooters) . F-stop range , wieght helps steady your shots, shutter lag, media requirements, buffer , frames per second, time between shots.......
