Nice skink! They're starting to grow on me as well. If I were to get something new, It would be a colony of some sort of Phyllomedusid/Red Eyed Tree Frog/Phyllobytes Terriblis "Orange".

If you want a novelty to creep your friends out then a snake or viper gecko could be cool. But , if your looking for a pet then I have rarely if ever seen a reptile be more of a pet than Leopard Geckos can be and the variety speaks for itself. Then again I may be a bit biased as I have over eighty of them and if they are all allowed to breed this year then I will have to find a means to move the offspring.

how i decided on my reptiles is i looked at the normal parameters of my house, humidity and temperature, space availability, and chose a lizard that would fit into my home without the need of to much added equipment. if your home has high humidity an amphibian or jungle biotype lizard might be a good fit. for me my house is very dry. can't hold humidity for anything so i got a desert type. i already had 3 turtles with a large 75gallon tank so i knew i need something that could live in a smaller cage. so i went with a leo, who got my 20gallon long after a stint in my 10gallon while he was little. my house is also on the warm side for most people nothing below 72 and i'm comfy in 80 though bf likes to keep it below 78, so a desert type small lizard was a good fit.

Another vote for the Blue Tongue Skink - they do get big though (I have a Northern that's over 2 feet long), so you need to account for the size of the enclosure - other than that, they're pretty simple, and the variety of food you can offer is kind of fun (everything from greens to snails to dubia to dog food)

Honestly, you should research and aquire something YOU like, not what someone on a forum suggests...
Just find what you really like and get it... No need to ask a forum because you will get a hundred different answers...

+1 It really is a personal thing. Just do some research and I'm sure you'll find more than just one thing you want! That's how it started with me. I started with one leo and now we have 8 lizards at home! 5 leos, 2 steppe runners, and a chahuoa.
