I was wondering, I have been checking on my 2 eggs everyday since they were laid last friday to make sure the are not denting or have had any condensation drip from the lid..etc.. and my question is..
Is it bad to open the lid every day? I only crack it - I never take it off but sometimes this will make the temps. drop a degree. Will this harm my eggs since its so early for them??? I am thinking the substrate they are in must hold some heat to secure the egg temp for about 30 - 60 seconds as the lid is cracked..??? It takes about one - two min. for the thermostat to get back up to 80 degrees, the lowest temp was 78.4 - highest 80.6... ?

Yes, it is not a good idea to check eggs every day... Not only do you make the temps fluctuate, you are also removing the valuable humidity the eggs need to develop properly...

Leave them alone... The more you mess with them, the more chance you have of screwing things up... If you feel the need to look at your eggs, why not just shine a flashlight at the container???

When incubating eggs the best thing to do is set them and forget them maybe opening the lid once every couple of weeks for gas exchange...

Thank you. My humidity right now in the incubator is 92% (not in the containers) so I think that will be alright. I cannot see through the lids of the containers which is why I have to take them off to check.. I bought deli cups after the eggs were laid - and as for a transfer.. I feel there is no use since one egg is stuck to the bottom of the lay box :main_angry:

I wanted to candle them tonight but I think I will let them be for the next 2 weeks and then give it a try.. for now its "do not disturb" except once a week for air ofcourse =)

It would be great if you can set it up so you can see right into the containers for future clutches. I use very clear, higher priced plastic containers that I get at the supermarket. The 4 corners of the covers are frosted (I think so you can write something on the lid) but I just set them up so the eggs nearest to hatching time are in the clear part.

:main_yes: That would be better .. I have the deli cups I bought from the deli at the supermarket (I work there p-t) and the lids I got from an employee at ******* which have holes in the top for live animals... which I could just tape up.. these are clear but the eggs were already laid.. The hovabator has lil windows... we should design our own and manufacture them.. hmmmm...

I hope it all works out ;) thanks for the input
