I am looking to buy a coleonyx elegans(Central American banded gecko) or a Goniurosaurus Luii(chinese cave gecko, chinese leopard gecko, etc.) in a few years and am looking for anyone who has a breeding program or is starting a breeding program for these geckos. Give me a shout if you are a breeder or know a breeder.
thanks

I am working with a small group of G. g. kuriowae. There are several other breeders on the forums here who are working with both of the species that you are interested in. Marcia at Golden Gate Geckos has a fantastic coleonyx collection, including elegans.

i know. Thats why i am trying to find a breeder. I am kind of full right now but maybe in a few years i will get some. I would rather not get WC because of parasites. And if I got 1 it would be G. Luii.

I'm thinking about getting a couple pairs of Goniurosaurus toyami from the local Petco... ;)

Seriously though, I really love the five Japanese Goni species. I want to at least get some kuroiwae and splendens sometime this year.

Most of those G. luii I see for sale seem to be mislabeled haianensis FYI especially when common names are used.

Reptile Depot.com has a a couple for sale. I have to call and make sure they still have them in stock but do you think that is a good place to buy them?and is $80.00 a piece a good price?:main_huh:

I personally prefer Coleonyx over Goniurosaurus. Goniurosaurus are different geckos to keep, cool and moist. I like the Coleonyx because of their outgoing attitude.

I voted Goni's since I already have the others listed.
I also feel there's a fillable gap between captive production and demand for these species.
Keep your eye on KS, there are some decent CB Goni's posted every once in awhile.

Best of luck with your breeding program!

Be careful though. A lot of stuff I've seen on Kingsnake are mislabeled by species (i.e. hainanensis not luii or hainanensis not litchen.). Or have other problems like "egg laying female"="below weight in need of food fresh wc".

Good advice.

I voted for other gecko because the only one that really appeals to me right now that i don't have would be a Naultinus Greyii:main_evilgrin:

I had to go goni's on aesthetics alone. You see sooo much contrast on a healthy/acclimated specimen and even more so with captive bred. From the rich purples of hainanensis to the stark orange in luii. But hands down the araneus is my favorite! He gets more stunning by the day.

I saw some Gonis at East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley earlier this week. :) I was thinking of getting myself a pair for my birthday in June. I bred them some years back and gave them away, dummy me!

As far as C. elegans, they are a pretty hard to find critter. I have been breeding them for years and they are not very prolific and are somewhat tricky. Most folks I know are holding back offspring for now until their numbers come up in captivity.

Good choices both, excellent geckos!:main_thumbsup:
