Controlling temp question?

I recently got my first hovabator and still trying to figure it out. I spent most of yesterday trying to get the temps correct but it keeps getting to hot. It has thermometer in it, but I was also using a digital one to see the temps. My question is will one of those rheostat things that are ment to control the temps on other herp heat things work for to control the temps for my hovabator??.

yes it will work but i would suggest a proportional thermostat
