yea, I would just do it I mean leopard geckos dont hurt anybody. They are friendly and everything lol so I don understand why your parents would care. :main_thumbsup:
If you already have one gecko and taking very good care of him/her on your own, I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to persuade them to let you keep more?
Everyone's situation is different. I think if you can prove to your parents you can care for them and do good in school and then ask them they should say yes. Just explain to them that you really enjoy having them and want to have more. Thats where already proving to them you can take care of the one you have comes in. Maybe have the rack and other leopard geckos as insentives to do good in school and get good grades.
My mom hates the leopards (But she loves bearded dragons for some reason...)
But I keep all my geckos and other animals very clean.
A big thing that keeps parents from wanting pets is sanitation and your ability to care for them.
My mom always says the only reason why she lets me have all my animals is because I keep them clean & I always get compliments.
Here's some advice from a parent:
Think about what your parents' impression of your general sense of responsibility has been in the recent past: have you lived up to most of your promises? Do you tend to get excited about a project and then abandon it or do you stick with things more?
Think about where you would put a rack and how much room there is in your house.
Consider starting smaller if you don't already have a leo, maybe with a 10 or 20 gallon tank and 1-2 leos. If you already have a leo, think about how that has been working out and how your parents feel about it.
Do you go away to summer camp or travel in ways that will mean your parents have to take care of the gecko? Some parents love doing this and others don't want to have to.
Try to figure out where your parents' objections are coming from. Is it their impression of your sense of responsibility, the cost, the fact that they may not like animals, their worries about smell and mess, a tendency to say "no" to everything first and reconsider later. If you can figure out what the problem is, then you may be able to figure out some ways to respond to it.
I've been having the same problem. My parents don't really let me have a room. It's my room, but they have to approve :main_angry:. I have always been responsible, and have good grades. The issues they had were with space, electricity bills, and more animals in general. Also, I'm off to College in a few years, so I'd have to figure out something for my pets. I've managed to convince them, but it was difficult.
You know your parents. Maybe it is something you can discuss with them. Talk about it in a light that is more positive. You can go on about how it teaches responsibility, or something like that. Whatever they want to hear. As far as pets go, leos are about as easy as it gets.
I'm a goody-two shoes, so I would never say get leos and build a rack without permission, but if you think your parents wouldn't freak that much, then maybe that would be OK.
Good luck. It's a never ending fight. Reptiles are addictive :main_yes:

Ha!!!!! Your parents must be really different than mine!!!!!! I do agree. If a kid agrees to pay for everything, take complete care of the animal, why should it matter, but in my family, it sadly does :main_rolleyes:
Just show them you are really into it by researching everything you need to now about them. Show them the cost for everything (food, electricity, ECT) in a month and then a year. Just dont try to suck up and beg being responsible is more persuasive. Ask them what there fears are about them and then be ready for anything they say and ensure them it will be fine with a responsible and smart answer.
I am glad I have a fairly supportive mom. She will sometimes (Usually if she is angry in general) complain about my animals but as long as the cages are clean, and there is no smell relatively she doesn't care.
Now space is kinda an issue that I am dealing with now, she doesn't like it when my room is floored with tanks and it sparks her up, but as long as I can assemble my tanks in a good manner she is fine.
She has also bought a lot of things for my small animals, but usually only treats or toys. Food and bedding for them as well as my other animals are all up to me.
Working at petsmart does help alot I must say.
She is not a huge fan of the leos..I don't know why but she even bought me a blazing blizzard for my birthday. She knows its my hobby and love.
I tell her, at least I am not spending 200 on a pair of jeans or 500 on a purse!
