OK so heres the thing. I need to house one of my leopard Geckos in a plastic tub for a few days. I have no experienc ein this as they are always kept in Glass Aquariums. My question is; how do i place the heatmat? Does it go underneath like in glass tanks? Or inside? For substrate I use Kitchen Roll.

Thanks in advance.

Additionally if the heat mat does go underneath for plastic there will be a gap a centimeter or two will this be ok? Or will all the heat escape?

It's best if the heat mat is touching. Why will there be a gap? If you can explain, I may be able to find a way around that. Some people also put heat mats at the back, and you could do that if that's the only way to get contact. You will really need to use a thermostat with this, since the heat mats really aren't rated for plastic. I've done it before with a mini UTH (zoomed 1-5 gallons) with no problems.

I'd get 3 inch wide heat tape so you only heat one side if the tub so you can create a heat gradient I put it along the bottom on one side this keeps the gradient and gives the ibelly heat needed as well. hope this helpd you

Argh I have found another way around the problem. Sorry to waste your time, the help is still appreciated.

If a mod could lock this thread or something that would be great thanks.

If it's as you say, only a few days, I would just use a red heat lamp.

Longer than a few day, you will need to find a way to get that UTH flush
againts the bottom, and the thermostat prob fixed to the top of the substrate.
If your tub has a rim around the bottom, you can use course sandpapper
to sand it down.
You can also trim it w/ a razor hobbie knife. Just heat the tub bottom w/ a
hair dryer to get it nice and soft, and it will cut very easy.
Do mind your fingers when cutting though! :main_yes:

Oops! I didnt read post #4, so, NEVERMIND!! :p
