First off I'm not attempting this! The pet store owner mentioned it and i was appaled but also curious to know if its true. Can you cross a crested with a gargoyle? Would they be sterile like with ligers and mules? Would they carry the gargs traits or the cresteds? Would they be able to regenerate their tails? Just curious if anyone has info on that or pics id apperate it if ya share:main_thumbsup: Like i said not attempting this! The risks of the offspring contaminating the "pure" gene pool i dont think is worth the risk.

I don't agree with it either but there are those out there doing it. There are crestie/garg hybrids, Chewie/sara hybrids, Sara/crestie hybrids etc. Theres quite a few pics on the net. As far as I know they are all sterile. They have a mix of traits, some look more crestie like, some more like gargs. I believe they do regenerate their tails.

Generally, I'm not in favor of hybrids of any species of animal. With Rhacs it's more of a "look what I can do" thing and all it's doing is creating animals that can potentially endanger the genetics of the species.

T-ReXx is absolutely correct!
Some hybrids do look interesting, but I would never breed purposely to make a hybrid nor would I buy one.

I saw an awesome crested x chahoua for sale for $400. I would definitely adopt it but not pay that much for it. I don't agree with mixing species for profit.

Sounds like the same junk they're doing with dogs... schnoodles, labradoodles, saintberdoodle (yes that is actually a designer breed)... I say leave well enough alone. We have a hard enough time perfecting the single species as it is yet along messing it up by adding another completely different animal to the mix.

Yeah I disagree with hybrids. Its king of like the milk, corn, king situation. Nice to look at the oddities coming out but I would never own one

I dont see the point in the crested/sara cross. They look almost just alike. All u get is a crested that may or may not reginerate a tail or a sara that wont regenerate a tail depending on how u look at it. I love my gargs the way they are and my cresteds the way they are.

I agree i'd never pay for one, adopt yes, but never pay for one. Ive never seen a corn/king/milk before(not really into snakes). Theoretically if a crested and garg at a pet store were housed together from a early age till a few months then one was sold and one was a boy the other a girl. Would they be able to breed that early and store sperm? Im still learning about both species. I ask because my local ***** has a few babies/juvies housed together and i know one being sold as a crested is infact a gargoyle.

Dog Shrink: Good example! Nothing but mutts them are! I didnt know the saint bernard/poodle was one=-= it just sounds stupid~

I realize that this reply is super LATE...but I just joined and was on this thread reading, so heres my little bit of input. The fact that your boss is putting cresteds and gargs together (period!) is a risk. They are not like crested geckos where when they are young, their temperment is more docile, and they can co-habitate better and all of that....In fact, Gargs are known to be EXTRA nasty as youngsters-juvies and will pick on, bully, and harm your crested gecko and theres no way around it. Its in thier genetics to be the way they are and there is NO way around it. Believe it or not, its more safe to put the 2 together as adults....but either way putting them together is a bad idea.
ONE MORE THING: My thoughts on crosses are that it may be neat, but to endanger the integrity of any species is a BAD idea. We dont want to be spending the big bucks the opposite way where the ACTUAL species are endangered species and the crosses are cheap! More importantly....nature needs to stayy the same without anyone messing with it.
