Okay, that probably sounds weird...lol

But, here in lil ol fairbanks, Alaska, we can't get much, unless by shipping which is...highly expensive, and our pet store is....over priced and doesn't have anything.

Right now, this is what my crestie's home looks like...

I will be getting more plants, but that was basically all they had that wasn't a billion dollars..
And it's not that bright in my room, I had flash on, but I have a heating blanket over here in case it drops below like 65 I can turn it on so the guy doesn't freeze, but so far the heat has been staying a constant at about 75.

Well, getting to the point, I can't find ANY logs or anything here that would give him something to climb on or explore, so I have these, probably years old, really sturdy and could reach from the top to the bottom, although it may look a tad creepy, I don't think he'll care.
But would these be okay to use? Or no?

haha Thanks!

if you hack them off to above the hair line, sand the points a bit and disinfect/sanitize them i think they would be ok.

Would boiling them work? I doubt you'd want to use any chemicals, because if they're poros, it might hold some of the chemicals inside, and slowly leach it out. Boiling is usually a good way to get inside any pores they may have and disinfect it inside and out.

...sometimes when you boil bones (which is essentially what antlers are) they get mushy...especially if there are any thin parts. eew. you're in alaska right? just leave them outside for a while and let the little pests freeze their butts off hahaha. i dunno

I thought I was going to see a picture of your gecko with antlers on it as like an Xmas reindeer pic or something LOL.

Just a suggestion if the antlers don't work out for you, have you tried Amazon? They have like everything, and there is always a private seller list link where you can get cheap shipping to anywhere in the US. It can take forever, but maybe you could find something affordable for him even though you had to wait awhile.

Is that a 10 gallon you have him in? I would suggest turning it right-side up. cresties are technicly semi-arboreal. (they sleep in the trees and come down at night.) They need some floor space as well, and a 10 on it's side only gives about 10"x12" of floor space.

that is way to big to be a 10 gallon

and i think a steamer would soften them antlers are not attually bone they are made up of compacted hair like the hair on your head and your finger nails kinda

i would get a rough sponge bleach warm water and just scrub the hell out of it rinse it then dry

It is a 20 gallon long, and they are about 10-15 years old, and had been outside, andt he -60 F weather pretty much, kills everything! He doesn't have a giant amount of floor space, but the only thing he has down there is his food bowl and water bowl, so I'm not sure how much foraging for food he would be doing like in the wild.

I put them in there and they look quite cool :p I'll take pictures later!

I am actually not going to reccomend it. Using bones and anters is only advise with caution in dry dessert setups, with low humidity. I would be worried about it breaking down, and harboring bacteria.

if you want to sterilize them a surefire way to do it is bake em in the oven.

i think the antlers will look awesome.

Well I only put one in there, I just noticed he can't climb up them very well, he slips a lot on them, so I'm going to use them for now until I can get some pieces of larger wood or something like that, that he can better grip on.

Thanks for all the advice :)
