I have a friend who is super curious about crossbreeding Leos and African Fat Tails. I told him I'd bring up the topic here. *I am not interested in this*

I was wondering a few things:

Is it possible?
Are the offspring mules or can they breed?
Are there lasting health concerns?
Does anyone here have3 experience with this project?

Thanks!

If you do a forum search, you'll find out that it has been discussed. Here are the highlights:

--they will mate
--the eggs will likely be infertile
--if fertile, the babies will likely not live (they are too different)

Suggest to your friend that s/he googles "breeding leopards and fat tails" and I'm sure there is extensive information on the internet.

An adult leopard gecko weighs on average 50-80 grams. An adult coleonyx weighs 15 grams. Do the math.

Oh, whoops, I completely forgot about the size difference :S All I was thinking of was the similarities in the two different species.

It'll never work Tony. Leopard geckos legs are too stumpy to achieve amplexus. Without a little squeezing, she'll never release her eggs. You'll have to try again with Agamura persica.

its like a dachshund x catahoula cross

You may laugh, but we have something similar at the grooming shop I work at. He's a Corgi x Yellow Lab.

It looks like they took a Lab's body and glued on Corgi legs. Most unfortunate-looking thing ever.

The moral of the story being: if that Coleonyx REALLY wants to breed the Leopard Gecko, then they will!
