Cuban Night Anole

Hi Everyone-
Has anyone had any experience with these guys? My local petstore has had a few and they seem to go pretty fast. When they get them in, they are fairly large and very stoic looking. I've been reading about them, but I just wanted to see if anyone else has cared for them.

Im pretty certain that the ones being bought at my local petstore, are being sold to complete idiots. These anoles look like they are not for beginers. Usually, only idiots purchase from this pet store. I once had to let a guy know that he could not use a 75watt heat lamp on a plastic critter keeper, to keep his newly bought green igunana in. This was a week after i had convinced him to just get a cat, and he said he didn't want an ig anymore...

:main_rolleyes: sorry about that rant.

okay, not to sound stupid...but...those are the brown anoles, right? I grew up in florida and witnessed the decline of the green anoles because the brown anoles were introduced and were much more agressive and took over. Now the green anoles are kind of rare in Florida. At any rate, I had a couple of brown anoles in a 10 gallon tank and they reproduced. (And I live in the north now.)

Oh no worries, you don't sound stupid. They are actually pretty new to the trade...and I'm going to bet a lot of them are WC.... :(

They are the largest of the anoles, and usually are shades of green. They can grow as large at 20 inches. They are originally from Cuba. Both the males and females have pinkish/white dewflaps. They are really great looking, and seem to be pretty chill in their cage, but probably fast and skiddish to human hands.

HAve no idea what these actually are. Do you have a species name? Even if it's the wrong one used by an importer/wholesaler.

If it is a big species it's probably similiar to the big Jamacian guys who live on the crowns of trees.

I have not cared for one myself, but someone I used to sell mealworms to had one and said it would eat just about anything moving. I don't sell him mealworms anymore because unfortunately he fed his anole some centipedes and they were poisonous to it.

I dont have any direct experience with the Knights, although I have seen many at pet stores. They seem to be a lot like water dragons in the fact that they seem to need higher homes rather than longer ones, and like to hang/sit on branches and the sides of the cages. i think they eat quite a bit too but not too sure. you should definitely go for it though!! they are absolutely gorgeous animals.

Without knowing more I assume it's care is very similiar to the Jamacian Knight. The reason I guess this is that a lot of these different species fill the same niche just on different islands, etc.

I totally got 2 today. A male and a female. The female already bit me, but I wont give up. They are beautiful. Right now they are in a tall humid tank and i covered it with a towel so they don't get anymore stressed out. I got the 2 of them because they had been raised together and I didn't want to separate them.
