Dart Frogs...

This past weekend we were vending at the WCCB Show in Portland. One of the tables close to us had Dart Frogs We befriended them and learned a lot about them. As you can tell, we got hooked! We bought a cage with a setup. In the setup, it has a running creek! We also purchased some plant clippings which we have added to the cage. For our cage, we purchased 4 Dendrobates leucomelas or Bumble Bee type. Only two were big enough for the set up right now, but the other two are making a cozy home in a shoe box tub Here are the pictures!

pretty cool... my fiance likes the blue dart frogs (forget the scientific name, azurealis or something i think) but they'd be too expensive and time consuming for us.

Nice addition Kyle. They setup looks great and so do the frogs. If you want to experiment with some more plants I suggest Ficus pumila [Creeping Fig] it will grow up the Iron root you have in the back of the cage. Cuttings of this species do really really well in your type of tank. Another good one is Tradescantia zebrina [Wandering Jew], you just need to make sure to keep this one trimmed back. It grows really fast.

Very cool setup, kotsay. My son would like to get some dart frogs. We already have a red-bellied next and African clawed frog, but in a very basic setup. One of these days we'll graduate up to the darts with a neat setup like yours.

Excellent choice in frogs ... They are in my opinion the boldest of the young frogs I have.... Leucs have great personalities ... Did you buy Fruit Fly cultures from them? Do you have a source to buy more.. I recommend keeping 2 sets of cultures going in different parts of the house as to avoid a collapse of your food source.... Good luck with the, ...They are incredible animals , and great pets...

Hey Eric,

We bought one culture of Fruit Flies for the frogs. The lady we bought the frogs from sells cultures so we are good to go
