The economy is killing everyone, i have many friends who lost their jobs due to the recent decline & are having a seriously hard time finding anything. Its not necessarily always about people not caring about their jobs that causes them not to care, sometimes its the company they work for. Here's an example, the company I work for has lay-offs like clockwork about once a year....we all know it's coming and there's typically no real rhyme or reason as to who is going to be let go. Our company calls it "trimming the fat", and it sucks bigtime, it really does. I think people get to the point where they think "Well I'll probly get laid off for no reason at all so I might as well not give a crap about this place", it seems stupid but it happens. I'm thankfully in a position where it would be very difficult to replace me b/c i'm the only person that knows how to do 80% of my job in the whole company, when i went on vacation for a week and a half during christmas everything went to hell....my manager even gave me a hug when i got back, guess its nice to be appreciated lol.

Our country is in the toilet and it's going to take something extreme to pull us out. The sad part there isn't really any type of quick fix, just gotta tough it out.....wouldn't hurt if the government weren't leaking money beyond all reason, but that's the government for yah.

Both of my parents cannot find jobs and my father went to university for four years to get his degree in environmental science and maintenance - something like that. Basically he got his piece of paper for something he's actually been doing for years in the military and it's something that you would think would be in more demand considering today's interest in environmental issues, but no one will hire him.

Meanwhile my mom is an LPN and the only work she can find is in the crappy school system that won't even hire her full time. For the passed few years she's been subbing for someone who was hardly ever at their job in the first place. And when the slot actually came open - they hired someone because they knew someone else who knew someone else, etc. You get the idea - I forget the exact word.

My brother helps to run a business that does drywall and stuff. Last I heard he was actually doing pretty well for himself, but that could change at any time.

I had a job but I had to quite because it just became too stressful. I was basically managing the reptile section at my store on my own but I could only be there one or two days a week because I'm a full time student. It was too much responsibility. The other girls that work there well...one doesn't really care about her job - I come into work and most of the reptiles don't have water or clean cages - and the other was promoted to supervisor so she doesn't have time to take care of the reptiles anymore.

The economy is only slightly better in Canada than it is in the US right now though. I'll be living off a student loan for the next few months. I just hope I'll be able to find a job this summer.

My parents, thankfully, made some smart financial moves and are in good shape.

My boyfriend is good with his company and actually is looking at a pay raise in a couple of weeks. (He does REALLY well for himself, especially for a 19 year-old without a college education)

I can't get a job to save my life, no one will hire me because I don't have experience, so I can't get the experience to get a job... It's an endless cycle! Not to mention jobs are few and far-between as it is. But yeah.. I'm the only one who's really "hurting" from this economy, it seems.

I think we all have it pretty damn good.

Just wish I could get a job. :( Been applying and calling places non-stop for nearly a year now.

A general rule as far as cursing is concerned, if they can't say it on prime time network TV you can't say it here. Please continue...

I would advise you to be careful with what you say... this quote could easily be seen as antagonizing the moderators.

The staff here at GF works VERY hard to keep this forum 'drama free' - this thread has the potential to be full of great talking points about our economy and how it is effecting each of our lives. . .

I would like to invite you to actually READ the TOS for this website... especially the part which explains the difference between a warning and an infraction, and gives a list of the various ways you can rack up points and get suspended from this website:
http://geckoforums.net/faq.php?faq=new_faq_item#faq_warnings
... and while you're there, look up the point value for using inappropriate language and antagonizing the moderation staff.

(BTW, the "MAN" in this case was the several other members that reported your posts, and you are lucky I didn't call out my flying monkeys!)

You'll learn that the mods are just trying to keep the fourm nice, clean, and a place where people can get good information in a healthy enviorment. You may not like what they do but when the time comes when someone else is acting up, your gonna want them to step in. Also, the language has to be controlled because there are young kids and teens 12-14 here as well.

am i going to see those flying monkeys while i'm out there? do they have little leathery wings or are they fluffy ones with feathers? but back on topic.

yes the economy has been very rough for most of us but as long as we keep our heads down and batten up the hatches. i'm sure we all can ride this storm out.

Now, back on topic.

If you want to have a contest for ranting and raving about the economy, I'd win. My husband has worked for the same bank for 33 years (longer than many of you have even been alive!) and it was just announced that he no longer has a pension. He was hoping to retire in 5 years, and that won't happen now. He'll have to be working until he dies, because I am already on Social Security Disability and we can't retire raising geckos.

sorry everyone for saying a bad word , it won't happen again i don't like monkeys !!!! my dad had one and he was a biter . i still want to here what people have to say about this current finacial problem we are in !! its very crucial that young people learn to take care of there money issues , we ain't gonna have no goverment programs to help us out ! you have to save money and take care of your self! thebest thing peopleunder thirty can do is put some money every week in a roth ira even if it is only 5 or 10 % of what you made each week or month . i work very hard to make sure that i put money away , i'm 23 and i'm pretty well off with no help from no one but me ! i want to make sure that i can retire at a decent age , if you DON'T SAVE YOU WILL NEVER RETIRE you will work until the day they put you in the ground or you could stop working and eat cat food until the day you die! we have to be smart and put a little something to the side for later !

The difference between a recession and depression is... a recession your neighbor loses his job. A depression you lose your job! A little funny in a time of stress, never hurts!:main_thumbsup:

Unfortunately, hubby and I have job security during these down times. Due to the crashing stock market and people loosing everything, suicides are on the rise.
And as long as they're dropping, I'm driving. :(

If theres anyone out there that thinks they can handle this job, you can have it.
