Although we all know leopard geckos poop, I think it deters me seeing turds in a classified photograph because it makes me wonder if the seller cares enough about his/her animals to clean up after them, or takes pride in their geckos. I understand that some photos are rare photo opportunities and there might be poo in the enclosure, but if you are trying to sell a gecko it should be presented professionally. I dunno... just my uppity opinion.

Not just classifieds, but anytime I see numerous poops in a pic, I'll start to think the person is not taking good care of their geckos. If they don't even have the time to clean up some poops, then they might as well don't have time to properly feed the geckos or gutload the feeders.

I don't know, but I don't have that many geckos, so its easy for me to say.

I actually find it helpful, by seeing a poop in the pic you can know alot about the health of the animal. Now dont get me wrong if i see a ton, now thats just poor husbandry.

i think i would have to agree with snared, a little is healthy sometimes, but a big mound in the corner would give me reason for concern.

I agree with most but I think if they are going to take the time to put an ad up they would take a good picture with just the gecko and it's individual characteristics.

It doesn't really bother me...some people just go through tubs and snap pictures really fast and don't have time to make it all "pretty". It is nice to see good pictures, but I understand that some people are busy.

My first judgments are that they don't take care of their geckos, they are lazy, or that they simply do not care. Then after my harsh judgments I take into account the fact that they might not have time, they could have a life etc...... and if the gecko is amazing then I might let the positive outweigh the negative. It's surprising to take a picture of a tank/bin you think is clean only to look at the picture and see that it doesn't look clean at all. When taking pics of juveniles it can happen bc you have to zoom in so much.

And I agree with Marcia, it should be presented professionally. Why would you go through all the work of taking care of the animals only to sell yourself short by including turds in the picture?? lol

I put "I don't know".

It would all depend on if the person prefaced their ad with "Sorry, I know there's poop, but I had to snap these shots real fast, I can provide better pics upon request."
THAT would make it ok with me.
I mean, I keep my geckos in pretty immaculate living conditions, but I snapped a pic of one of my cresties once on cleaning night, where she was peeking out her cage, and she had CGD smeared ALL OVER the side of her cage. And I didn't even REALIZE it until after I had put the pic up.
Things happen. If the gecko looks healthy, and the poop doesn't have obvious worms crawling around in it, then a pile or two isn't going to bother me.

I also think that if you're going to be selling geckos then you should invest in a decent camera OR learn how to take decent pics OR learn decent PP skills, OR take the time to make a simple light box.:D
Because pics DO help sell a gecko.
I sold two of my hatchlings to first time gecko owners by simply sharing decent pics of them with non-gecko people on a non-gecko board.:D

ETA: I should add, too, that some geckos are just messy.
Like, my hatchlings. Especially the more worms I feed. They'll poop twice in one day if they pig out too much on supers. And as much as I pride myself in how I tend to keep my geckos living area clean, some can mess it up MINUTES after cleaning it (even SECONDS after cleaning it as my hatchlings like to dump over their calcium dish and drag themselves through it).
And, no, I won't clean cages everyday. I have TOOOOO many animals for that.

I voted yes for same reason as others have posted. If people dont have the time to clean out the tank before taking pictures to potentially sell the gecko then i dont think they care enough about the animals for me to want to buy them.

Tbh before someone becomes a breeder they should think about the commitment they are making and if they have the time and patience to do it. Geckos should be treated with care and looked after properly, not treated like livestock to sell for a quick buck.

Yep, I'm definitely put off by a picture that includes a dirty enclosure. Take the time to clean it, then snap the picture. It should be important enough to you. :main_yes:

I like to see a couple just so I can see that it has been fed and that the poops aren't runny or mushy which is an indication of parisites but I don't want to see mounds of it
