Hey everyone, I was just wondering what you guys find Leopard geckos turning out to be- a hobby that you grow out of, or a lifestyle. After voting, can you please tell how you got interested into Leos? Thanks!

Hello!

I got interested in leos just about a year ago, when I first got Bling! Leo's were on sale at Petco and I already knew their basic care and ect. So I bought one, a baby patternless leo! Up till now I still leos, I own three now. I will be adding to my leo family this summer! I am planning to buy two more at a show in August! Woo hoo!

They are my life... :)

Hey Ben and Emma, thanks for your replies!
I got interested in reptiles by anoles and newts. I know, newts aren't reptiles, amphibians, actually, but I they inspired me to look into reptiles as a possible hobby. I was around 9 at the time, and it has become my life since then, and I'm 12 at the moment.. Thanks again for replies; I'm looking forward to others'!

I can't imagine our life without the happiness our leos bring to us! They have made us smile, laugh, and they have made us a lot closer in our relationship. I don't know how we got along so well without them! I love them so much!

Ive always loved reptiles. Since i was a kid(younger kid, im 13 now) and they have always interested me. I got my first leo when i was like seven and it got sold because i didnt know the care. Then just in september my little Yoshi started it all. I now have 4 leos with one egg in the incubator due to hatch any day and im(hopefully) getting 2 or 3 more soon. I think they are for life :D

I've always loved reptiles and I think I've actually found something that I'm passionate about (it's a first for me..I've found hobbies in my life, but never anything that makes me feel like this)!!!

My uncle was one of the first breeders of geckos, though not a big or famous one- he gave me a baby when I was a youngling myself (which was a lot longer ago than 3 years). I've had a leopard gecko with me pretty much at all times since then. Things like mealworms in the fridge and worrying about power outages and heat pads is pretty much second nature at this point...

But really, what more perfect pet than a gecko?

I don't want to sound like a parent or something- but were I you guys I think I would be a bit more wigged out telling the internet that I was underage. Maybe I've just been watching too much of that 'catch a predator' show...

I grew up next to a creek and alot of huge open fields filled with rattlesnakes, rats, mice, gopher, moles, frogs, western fence lizards, garter snakes and birds. I used to keep some of them as pets.
I first got into leopard geckos when I bought my wife 2. I never had and before and knew nothing about them but my wife used to have some. I started reading all about them and then I got addicted to them. This is my 1st season as a small scale private breeder. I am having a fun 1st season but I will be working my azz off with all the project I have going for the 2009 season.

I don't see them as a hobby now, they are a big part of my life! We don't have kids or other pets, not many hobbies too...My husband is an online game addict and spends 90% of time in front of his computer when he is home; and I can deal with that because I have my geckos!! I can't imagine how boring my life will be without them.

Although snakes are really my favorite herps, leos will always be a favorite of mine. A leo was one of my first herps and cant imagine not loving them or not wanting to keep them anymore. So im in it for life lol :D

I got my first reptile at 16 years old, on and off through the years I have had many different reptiles and have settled on a few different types. Over the last few years I have gotten to appreciate the Leopard gecko fo its personality and docileness. I am currently 36 and still keeping different types of herps and dont expect to stop any time soon! The collection just keeps on getting bigger!!!!:main_thumbsup:

My geckos are not only a hobby or a lifestyle, they are part of my life. I'm going on my 14th year working with these beautiful, gentle creatures, and I cannot imagine not having them... even if I am not breeding them. I will always have Leopard Geckos in some way, shape, or form!
