Okay, so I wanted to take a picture of this little guy.
He is another gecko up for sale at the store where I bought my Kiya.
I don't think that he looks too healthy myself.
He has been there since I got Kiya, so he is at least two months old.

What do you think?

Looks OK. Maybe just a very little thin. BUT, that water dish with that leo? They need to rethink their dish sizes there, I'd say. That poor little leo's bound to fall in and drown eventually. :main_no: SAD!!!

Most gecko's I've seen at stores are under fed, and malnourished.

The store I got mine from, when I got him he was as thin as a pencil, and his tail was even thinner...in the last few weeks since I've had him, he has bulked up and is still bulking up and growing really fast!

A lot of the times the stores don't watch to see if they eat, they just chuck some crickets in and put some mealies in a bowl, and sometimes the gecko's don't always eat.

If he's not sick, with good food, and TLC they bulk up fast.

He is does not at all seem healthy size. As far as I remember them saying he is almost 4 months old. I will ask to be sure next time I am there.

I am tempted to get him at some point when I can afford it because I can't right now. I really don't want to help him. Take care of him better than they can.... I agree about the water dish. That is what I thought she I saw him lying on it like that.

I got my first from a pet store and she was one of the healthiest leos i've ever seen. In fact they take exelent care of all their reptiles. Just because they come from a pet store dosn't automaticly make them unhealthy.

I did too, it was just a small, couple-owned shop called the @nimal House in Sandy Eggo. I think they participate in the big Herp Show there every year. They bred their own geckos and snakes, and ran a very clean, tight, ship. Had all sorts of specialty items. I adored them.

I think that when most people think Pet Store, they think of those large corporate big box stores for pets. While these places carry some decent selection of stuff, I try not to do too much shopping there and prefer the local small shops. Those Big Stores leave things to be desired on their husbandry and animal acquisition practices.

So I vote with my dollars.

From the pic he does look okay - if not a bit thin.

I'm quite proud of our leopard geckos at our store right now. Most of them appear to be healthy. Unfortunately there are a few that are very thin. There's a lot in the one tank - and I've spoken to my manager about not ordering so many geckos at once - so some probably don't get to eat as often as they'd like. Today I made sure some of the thinner babies got to eat; including this one very thin one. He had four crickets! I was so proud of him. :3

Anyway, yeah. To be absolutely certain, we'd need a bigger pic. And that leo sure does need a smaller water bowl! :O

Looks Thin

She looks thin but, that would depend on the age.

I got my 3 from pet shops, 2 from 1 shop & the owner is also the breeder so they all looked fine, but she is very shy, the last 1 i got was from a local shop & the Leo's looked very good, all in clean viv's, the one i had is a bit thin but she is only 6/8 weeks old & is now eating very well.
We don't have any chain store shops round here that sell retiles but there is one about 30 miles away that i have been to, all the stock looks great in there, i saw the lady hand feeding a beardie with locusts, he ate 2 large ones then she said to him, "don't you want this other one, you usually have 3" she stood there with it in her fingers & he did eat it after a few minutes.
