This is a real weird question, but I often see people refer to traits as "dominate" traits- I always thought they were "dominant."? Which is correct?

(On that note: if I have a mack snow blizzard and a mack snow, and they have babies- are the babies also het blizzard? How far down the line does het go?)

LOL "Dominate" is one of my pet peeves!

As far as your other question: the babies would be het Blizzard. The next generation depends on who you breed back to. Baby (het Blizzard) x non-Blizzard parent = 50% possible het Blizzard babies.

"Dominate" means to be higher, better, stronger than something else, but it is a verb, or action word, like: 'I will dominate you'.

"Dominant" means to describe something that 'dominates', or an adjective, like: I was dominant in the contest.

More examples:

Incorrect: The Mack Snow is a 'dominate' gene.

Correct: The Mack Snow is a 'dominant' gene.

Correct: The Mack Snow 'dominates' over recessive genes.
