You find a gecko you absolutly love and want terribly but can't afford it or it's sold already?!

I Found one I like a lot...but man if my parents found out what I would have spent on it, they'd ring my neck and it's not even that exspensive for a gecko with shipping. $145. but the most I've ever spent was $90. My dad expects me to make that money in return from breeding. *sigh* if only he saw just how beautiful they are, I love them so much, it's so funny to watch their behaviors and mannorisms, and watch them grow, that's why I want to breed, not just to make money...sheesh. Not everything is about money.

But ya know what I mean.

Trust me, my mother and the rest of my family think I`m crazy... I can't tell you how many times I`ve heard "You spent how much on a Lizard?!?!" All I can say is it's best to keep it as a hobby before your parents think your crazy... Because one you bring the word "Business" into it, its a whole different ball game.

I agree, I think everyone has done that from time to time. I know there are alot of geckos I have seen that I would have loved to been able to afford.

Lol, I'm pretty sure I'd feel guilt for a quite a while after that if I spent too much on a leo.

Ugh! I'm going through the same thing right now actually!! lol. Minus the whole parent thing. =P

Lol, well why don't you talk to the person about a payment plan? Don't most breeders have payment plans, becuase if wasn't for my parents I'd be there buying that gecko now! It's probably a good thing they keep me in check XD

I thought about that. Except I'm stuck going to NJ in April to house-sit for my mom while she goes on vacation so I don't know when I'll really have the money. =(

In this economy, $145 is a tank of gas and some groceries... Not exactly pocket change ;)

When you live on your own and have to budget...$145 is more than a tank of gas and groceries haha...but you're right, to some people its a LOT more than pocket change

Its gas to get to school clear across town everyday, and to work. Or A next meal lol :main_rolleyes:

But feeding isn't a problem once you get your own feeders, man Once I discovered the magic of buying and breeding your own mealworms, I've only spent problem 30$ on 7 geckos in 3 months! and I still have some left, and they all eat everyday about 6-8 mealworms

aww man, i think I caved in.

My parents are going to kill me, but I love them.... but I am selling my SHTCTB to a girl who feeds crickets, because I only feed mealworms, and SHE WILL not take them.

I may be alone in this thinking...but I don't think it's fair to get rid of a leo because she wont eat what you want to feed. Especially to sell her in order to get a different leo :(

I agree. I breed my own mealworms now, and when my mom calculated the bills, between 6 leopard geckos, we only spend about $10-$12 a month on crickets, sometimes not even that much if i only get crickets once that month

try squeezing some guts out of the meal worm and putting the guts on her lips or your finger to get her to lick it. it worked with my normal who WOULD NOT eat them, regardless if they were in front of her face or crawling around, with calcium powder or not.

WHOA WHOA WHOA!! Hang on, I completely understand and agree there, but I want her to go to a calmer place and maybe she'll eat better, besides I was selling her, before I even saw this gecko. No I don't just trade out my pets, when I take a pet, I take full responsibilty of him/her. Please I understand where your coming from, there is more to it, but that's not really any of your business. You can't judge me as a bad owner when I'm trying to find a way for all my leos to be well taken care of! :( They aren't just "trading cards"

See, here's the deal and I know a lot of you don't agree upon this. I won't be getting this gecko in several weeks, in that time, me and my dad are building a shelve rack thing, before then I had my SHTCTB in with my females, because my mother didn't want another 10 gallon setup (yes the cage is big enough for all three) but my females bit and picked on her, so I quickly removed her, and placed my male in with them, this can only be temporary, too much stress on both parties. So I moved my SHTCTB into his 10 gallon. So I needed to find her a new home because I don't want to leave my male in with my females for several weeks, that'd be cruel and hazardess, so with much not wanting to, a girl at work who used to be terrified of reptiles has recently got into leos and absoulutly loved my SHTCTB, and since I needed to rehome her quick, I sold it to her (plus her birthday is just around the corner)

Now does this make sense?
