Drinking

Just a general question... Do all leos drink from their water bowls? Because, I've had my leo for over 3 weeks now and I've never seen her drink from her bowl. She knows the water is there, I'm sure. I was thinking maybe she gets enough moisture from her food, or maybe she only drinks at night? But I would have thought by now I would have seen her drink something. She's healthy, and growing well, and so far no problems :) Any ideas people? Does anyone else find this?

I have had my three babies for quite a while but never seen one of them drink. The closest they have come is when I am trying to train them not to be afraid and i have water on my hand. My oldest girl still licks my hand looking for the water I used with her. The others I still have to use water but the lick it right off. I guess they do it at night or even get it from their moist hides. I wouldn't worry as long as your baby is healthy he is definitely getting water some how.

Ah righty. My Amber is not really a baby anymore lol. She weighs 30 grams, and has a nice tail on her :) As for her moist hide, she rarely goes in there either. I've tried spraying one side of the tank, so she can lick the moisture off there, but she's not interested. She's healthy though, so that's good. I've just realised I should have posted this topic somewhere else maybe :/ Ah well. Any more ideas people?

Thanks,

Dakota

spray the water directly on her. she might tweak out for a second, but she will lick it off her face.

I've seen my guy drink a few times. The dish is close to his hidey-log, so he just sticks his head out, looks around, takes a few laps, then oozes back under the log. I took a video once. :laugh4: It'd be pretty easy to miss, though.

He's licked drips off the side of the cage too, when I was filling the bowl and splashed. However, that was winter when it was very dry. I haven't seen him drink much lately now that it's the "rainy season" here.

I've seen Mandarin drink from her bowl a few times, and only have seen Tiamat once or twice. I have seen her licking the walls of her moist hide. I would guess that leopard geckos, being a desert species, are very adept at surviving on very little moisture.

you rarely ever if EVER see them drink but they do. I have had my leopard geckos for 1 year and I have only seen one of them drink once.

^Same here, I've only ever seen my male drink a few times, and never seen my female drink.
