Dubia Roaches vs. Crickets

Crickets are GROSS. Noisy and sooo stinky. Plus they die faster. Love roaches. No odor, no noise and my geckos love them. They also don't hop so they're easier to catch. I'll never get crickets again. The roaches kind of freak me out and I refuse to touch them. I spoon them into a cup and tweezer feed them to my lizard kids :-D Actually I think the crickets freaked me out a little more, mostly because of the jumping.

I got Sind dubia and they have doubled in # in about a month, saves me money that I was spending on mealworms, and I have gotten used to them.

Have to vote for roaches, I ordered a hundred of them to see if my geckos liked them and man did they ever. I have to start a colony now. I hate crickets.

i voted crickets, but mine get a lot of dif bugs. but roaches aren't one. we tried that once. he wouldn't eat them.

I hate crickets, they're noisy, stink and die. I used to have lateralis and dubia but the Mrs won't let me get any more because some escaped last time. I bought a few discoid roaches that she doesn't know about but I can't start breeding them without her noticing.

I have a large colony for feeding other critters, and my 3 leopard geckos wont eat them, at least, not yet. Any tips to trick my leo's into eating them?

I think it may take some time to convince my mom and myself to have hundreds of roaches in my house. I might just stick to mealies.....

I have to vote for Crickets because my Leo is not a fan of Dubias Roaches so I feed him a variety of food. Also, I am not a fan of roaches and if they escape I will go crazy.

Dubias are the only thing all of my geckos will agree on. Echo won't eat superworms, but sometimes mealworms. Clementine won't eat crickets or mealworms, but sometimes superworms. Freddie won't eat mealworms and can't catch crickets. And Pixel will eat anything. None would eat the lateralis roaches (I haven't had them since I got Pixel, she'd probably eat them). They all love dubias. So do I.

I got some roaches to start a dubia colony on Thursday. They're in an 18 gallon tall aquarium in the restroom next to the laundry room, which is dark and has no windows. My biggest problem is the repair guy is coming this afternoon, and if he sees a tank of roaches back there, he'll think I've gone completely unglued. He already thinks I'm off center because I keep a group of "little lizards." How do other people handle this?

Easiest way to handle it is accept that you've come unglued When someone calls you crazy, agree with them. Who needs sanity when you have adorable little lizards to play with?

Guys you have to be careful not to feed only roaches to your geckos. They are too high in protein and can cause gout later on in their life. I've been reading and seeing many leo's with gout. I read in a chameleon forum that roaches hold uric acid and they don't have some type of good omega acid that the leo's need. All other insect have this but no roach does. Just a heads up!

I'm not being smart, but you need to start doing your own research. I don't save things I read. I keep it in my memory compartment.

I have also heard that the gout is caused by the roaches eating dog food primarily. I counter this by feeding my roaches primarily fruit and veggies and oatmeal. I don't feed only roaches though, they get crickets and worms (meal and super) too.

I think it's fairly common knowledge in the gecko community that a varied diet is best.

I feed mealworms in a feeding dish, but my little man likes dubias to be hand fed every couple days. He snacks on mealworms, but I leave a general supply.

Crickets stink to high hell and are loud.
