Eclipse Eyes Question

I was wondering if you can tell if a leo is an eclipse on the day it hatches. Are the eyes black from the start, or do they darken as they age?

You can certainly tell as a baby. Sometimes they will actually fade over time (mainly with snake eyed animals) and become almost normal looking.

Wow fantastic photos. Thank you very much for the reply. So is the snake eyed hatchling you posted still an eclipse?

Yea. Snake eyes don't typically fade...but they CAN.

Here is one of our Snake Eyes that we had...he ws 124g in this pic.

He had one snake eye and one solid eye. I personally like snake eyes more because they look more unique to me. Either way (snake eye or full) they have the exact same genetic potential and can both produce solid or snake eyes.

I have another question for you. My geckos were both 100% het eclipse, which means the babies are 66% hets. The first two that hatched did not have eclipse eyes, but one has such dark eyes that they are almost eclipse. I had to look at it from so many different angles to see if the eyes were eclipse or not. Is it safe to say that leo would be het eclipse? Are there any known visual markers for eclipse?

I will work on trying to get a decent photo. Only the first two eggs have hatched so far. The pairing was a Rainwater Albino 100% het Typhoon to a MacSnow Rainwater albino 100% het Typhoon. I hatched out a Rainwater albino, and a Macsnow Rainwater albino. they both seem to have normal Rainwater albino eyes, except one of them has such dark eyes I thought they were eclipse at first. They move so fast that it's really hard for me to take a decent photo. This is the reason that I thought there may be some type of "het marker," given how dark the eyes are.

I can't get a decent photo for the life of me. This one hatched as well, and its eyes are much darker than the others, but they still aren't jet black.

Here are some better photos of his head and feet. These are all from Male Rainwater Albino 100% het Typhoon x Female MacSnow Rainwater Albino 100% het Typhoon. Adults purchased from TUG.

MacSnow Rainwater Albino that I do not believe has any eclipse in it, also from first two eggs. You can see how much lighter the eyes are. The eyes on the others are so much darker, but not completely blacked out.
