Eclipse & Het. Raptors....

I am really excited to introduce these animals in May, I love the Eclipse morph, and it would be sweet to produce some Raptors also. Maybe even better would be an eclipse not het. albino...those are the fun ones! Oh well...time will tell! The male Eclipse is from Jason at thebestgeckos.com, and the two females het. raptor are from Garrick at crestedgecko.com.

The last one pictured is an albino, and has fairly odd back legs which are double-jointed, so she is likely to be a pet only. Has anyone seen this before in a gecko ?

They are all very pretty!! I'm not sure what you mean by double jointed back legs........ I've not seen a double jointed gecko before.

Well, Gecko Prince, if you look at the last gecko pictured there, you can already kind of see the odd angle the joints sit at. I was aware of this when I got the animal, just so you all know.

It doesn't seem to cause her harm at all, it's just her back legs are...a little crazy! They'll bend any direction basically...

Thanks for the comments !

Yeah, its called not absorbing the proper amount of calcium...

Hmmm, very interesting....thank you for the information...I am wondering if she is still potentially okay to be paired with a male or is this a bad idea? Could she still form eggs correctly ?

I would guess she would have trouble with egg production or the eggs would suck even more calcium away from her. If it were my decision I wouldn't breed her; that's just my opinion.

Actually, if she was brought back "up to speed" and she is getting the proper calcium, her egg production would not suffer...

MBD is totally stopable and in lots of cases, its reversable...

Take her to the vet to get the right dosage of the liquid calcium and she should recover good. I would not breed her untill she got treated first. In the case of my shtctb she was a find from *****. She was the first tang I ever saw. She always had ascess to calcium and got dusted crickets and mealworms since I bought her. Every once in a while a leopard gecko just doesn't break down calcium. No matter what you do they just get worste and worste. That was when I learned my lesson not to buy from *****. Your girl should be fine after a vet visit.

Glad to hear it! Would her MBD have to be reversed totally before breeding her?

She is still at least 6 months away from being "of age", I am not in any rush to have her start pounding out eggs, haha. I was just curious, and I really appreciate all of the input being provided here. She devours pinkies and has calcium in her tank, so she has so far been improving greatly in health and size since I received her.

Just wanted to chime in as I have some geckos that do the same thing your talking about--A purebred HQ redstripe and a jungle albino het Raptor--2 or 3 times, I've seen them with one of their back legs inverted--their "knees" bend the opposite way that they should, and get 'stuck' like that. the few times I've seen it happen, it has corrected itself, but it scared the crap out of me when I first saw my nicest Redstripe look like she just had an unpleasant visit from some mobster goons :) Both of these geckos are otherwise outwardly very healthy, other than the very occaisional knee inversion!?!

If she has MBD, I wouldn't breed her at all. It may be "reversible", but there is a lot of damage that can still be done when a gecko is growing without proper calcium. If she has MBD, it could be either because she wasn't given access to calcium or because she has a calcium absorption problem, which would make her a poor candidate for laying eggs. She sure is pretty, though!! :main_thumbsup: How come it's always the pretty ones? Sigh.......
