Actually, no. Just like the sun can be fully eclipsed or partially eclipsed, so can the eye. It can be a full eclipse of the eye, causing a clean black cover or partial cover that gives the "snake eye" phenotype. while in non albino leos it will appear as a black cover, in albinos (like the girl above) it will be a redish cover.

that's what I thought. Now the question is: What is going on with the eyes? It's definitely NOT normal. they are both cloudy in a strange way I've never seen before. Can you see that or the pics aren't good enough?

Sorry to throw in a monkey wrench, but the eclipse gene can be totally unseen in the eye. Ask TonyC, he's hatched some. He posted it in a thread, but I can't remember how to find it.

I have hatched some eclipse with regular eyes, too. I can tell by the white nose and the genetics.

i see what you mean about the "shading" in the eye. i have a gecko that i had bryan jett look at for the same reason. but without at least one of those traits, either eclipse eyes or the trademark white nose, i would have to agree this isn't an eclipse. as far as i know though, the white nose is infallible. every eclipse i have ever seen or own has that trait.

i don't think the heterozygous traits are visual in leopard geckos, but i guess it could be possible. i've heard of visual hets in snakes. this is what is so much fun about our hobby. you never know what is going to hatch and breeding keeps evolving. very cool to be part of this.

I don't think she's eclipse for the same reasons, though I think we may deal with a new (or not) mutation in the eye appearance.
First of all, I have to get better pics with someone else's camera because mine sucks...
second, I'll have to see how her offspring look like and maybe to prove the genetics. If someone else has a leo that show something similar, I'd love to see some pics.
