We got a ton of this stuff from past projects and seem to recal someone using it as a bedding for the hide box .

Its the stuff that comes in the bricks and you soak it in water to have it expand and become dirt .

would this be ok to use as a bedding ?

I would say its pretty perfect for a humid hide, or just a comfy soft normal hide for leos(geckos in general). It retains moisture very well and its nice and natural looking. some people would argue that it could be consumed and cause impaction...though because the bark is natural wood...stuff...small amounts may be able to be digested...dont quote me on that though i have NO CLUE if thats a possibility.
regardless i would say go for it, i love the brick stuff

Not a good choice for a leo's substrate I only use it for the nest boxes and am currently using it in one females tub for laying because she doesn't use her lay box to lay eggs . she has no choice but to lay them in the lay medium so they wont dry out before I get to them. But I am only doing this because I know she is due to lay any day. and as soon as she does I will give her , her normal setup again.
If it is used in any other manner but in the lay box they have the potential to ingest it while hunting for food and that would not be good.

I use it in my lay boxes which double as moist hides. I think that's what you were asking about. I did just make a planted AFT enclosure with eco-earth as a substrate covered with some moss. Given this AFT's behavior I'm not worried about ingestion. I have never seen any eco-earth in my leos' poops, even the ones who live in the lay box.

Not good for substrate but excellent for humid hides and laying boxes. Any substrate that can accidentally be ingested is very dangerous. Tile, paper, and paper towels are the best options. Plus, they are easier to clean and more sanitary.

I use it in my humid hides/lay boxes as well, and it has been working out GREAT for us! As everyone else said, it's not good to use as the substrate in the entire cage, we use paper towel and we really like that too.

My leos prefer the Eco Earth in their moist hide(s). I couldn't ever to get them to spend much time on wet paper towels or moss. But after I switched a week ago, they can't get enough of it. It must feel like a nice comfy soft (and wet) mattress.

I use moss in a hide and spray it with water for a humid hide, but then if it isn't humid and the gecko isn't shedding,he sleeps on it!

Same here, we just switched recently and as soon as we did, all of the geckos have been spending most of their time in their moist hideboxes. That's funny that you say it must feel like a nice comfy soft mattress, because I always think the very same thing :D
