I just bought a brick of Eco Earth to see how it is. Anyway the brick is HUGE and I know it expands a bit when it's wet. Around how much should I chip off so I can put it in my Geckos Humid Hide.?

You'll only need a small amount for 1 humid hide. Maybe about a 1" thick piece the short way through the block. You can always add a bit more.

To be over protective, throw a piece of paper towel on top of it or wrap it like a pillow so your leo doesn't ingest it by accident.

There is no need to do that at all... Your gecko will not get impacted from this product... If you are going to do that, you should just stick with a wad of wet paper towels...

It's kind of tough sawing off a piece of the brick. If that's all you need, consider paper towel as others have suggested. Otherwise, it makes sense to soak the whole brick and then get a large (really large) ziploc to store it in. It can stay like that indefinitely, I've never had it mold.

I use paper towels and I just don't like them. They dry out completely from one day to another and ehhh I'm pissing off my mom by stealing all her rolls of paper towels, lol . .

I literally found a SAW and SAWED off part of it. It was an experience. So your telling me you just soak it and put it in a ziploc, close it and put it away. I asked about storing it and someone told me to dry it out first. I have an entire brick that looks like it'll last me a year if I just stick to one leo :)

I use eco earth in my lay boxes which double as humid hides when it's not breeding season. I agree that it's much better than paper towels but it does need to be re-moistened occasionally. I have stored damp eco earth in a ziploc for upwards of a year with no problems. It stayed damp, too, so when I needed to use some I could just scoop it up.

Thank You. It would be best to try to squeeze out the extra water out right. I bought the brick for like $2 and I see it'll last me for over a year.. Lana seems to like it too..
