Egg bound and her tail is thinning

These are pictures of one of my raptor females. She's laid 2 clutches so far, and while I've noticed her tail thinning, I attributed it mainly to her laying, as she was still eating.
Today this is what she looks like, and she didn't eat last night, any advise on how I can help her? I don't care about the eggs, I just don't want to lose her.
Thanks,
Dave

I would take her to the vet asap! They can give her something that will help her lay them. Until you can get her to the vet, soak her in warm water that doesn't go past her upper legs. That may help her to move them out. Try the soaking about three times a day. Try and keep her as stress free as possible. Good Luck and get to the vet monday or tonight if possible.

Poor girl! Giving her warm water soaks like M & M said is good. Make sure she has an apppropriate place to lay her eggs, plenty of calcium, and get her to a vet ASAP. If you need help finding a qualified vet near you, let me know and maybe I can help.

In the meantime, put her on my slurry:

Good luck with your girl... I know how worried you must be!

Thanks everyone!
I've given her a bath,..she has a moist hide that she's already laid in this season, and aside from dusting meals they also have a calcium dish in their enclosure(2 females, no male).
Thanks again and I'll keep you posted.

So I've given her another quick soak, 2 or so minutes, and moved her moist hide (glad tupperware filled with moist coco-husk) closer to the heat strip, so she'll be sitting in the higher 80's.
Any advise from here on out? Again, I couldn't care less about the eggs, I'm just worried about losing her.
Thanks,
Dave

She has moved into the lay bin and dug herself a great lay spot.
Anticipation is the worst part.
I want to sit there and watch her pass those things,...but I know that I can't.
I did want to say one thing on a side note if I could however,.....I have recently joined this site, I am living in Canada and due to an "extreme" thread on the premier site in our country, learned of www.geckoforums.net. I genuinely appreciate the lack of "what, are you stupid???" type responses that this thread has received,....well,..actually,..0 negative responses, THANK YOU!! I feel 100% responsible for her getting to this stage, I thought to myself 3 or 4 days ago,"man, she looks REALLY wide,...is she O.K.?",...but like I said, I attributed it to the fact that it was going to be her 3rd or 4th clutch, maybe the other female in with her was dominating a little and eating more,..etc..
Again,..Thank you, for not jumping on me for "poor husbandry", and instead trying to help.

North of the border is colder in many different ways.

We had one egg bound this year and did warm water soaks while we were waiting for her vet appointment (they couldn't see her for 4 days) and she passed them by herself. She looked WAY worse than your girl so hopefully she'll pass them with no complications!

Ahhh,....thank you!!!!! I am so worried by her current physical state, and not that I'm happy that yours looked worse, but I'm glad to hear that she passed them and is doing ok.
To be honest,..the "reputable" herp vet that is nearby mis-diagnosed a bearded dragon of ours(my wife Kelly and I), which ultimately led to her death.
We're in Burlington, "A-BOOT"(ha ha) 30 minutes west of Toronto.
If anyone knows of reputable herp vets in that vicinity please let me know.
Thanks again,
Dave

I would definetly take her to the vet as soon as you can. He should be able to do something for her. Then make sure that she can free feed all day. I would offer some pinkies, to help her regain fat storage in the tail, and supplement her with a little extra calcium. Then just soak her in warm water like you have been doing. I hope this help, keep updating us.

Hi

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I have a gecko that is thinning. I have taken her to the vets and an xray confirms that she has two eggs. She has had 2 injections of calcium and oxytocin which is the stuff used to bring on contractions but still no eggs.... Does anyone know what to do next??

The vet mentioned that the oxytocin had a 50/50 success rate in geckos, in snakes it doesnt work and tortioses it works every time... she just lays in her nest box all day ??

I'm reluctant to let her have surgery as I'm told this is usually fatal anyway ?

thanks

adam
